Under 30 Bypass Crew

Recommended Posts

I was just told today that surgeons don't recommend gastric bypass to younger people because you have a longer lifespan of not getting enough nutrients (contraindicated for long-term risk and permanency), and it has a devastating impact when you are older. I have noticed that pretty much everyone I've met or talked to that had gastric is 40's or later. Anyone here in their 20's like me?

Hi! I am 29 and planning to get gastric bypass surgery. I started the process to get the sleeve, but was diagnosed with Barrett esophagus after an endoscopy and am therefore not eligible for the sleeve anymore.

My coworker who was my real-life WLS inspiration had bypass when she was 21 or 22. I'm 31 and had mine a few months ago. I think there are plenty of people who get bypass in their 20s!

I posted you guys a nice post, it flew off somewhere into the ether, oh well NBT, NBD. @Gym and Tonic, I share your birthday, a big difference, I will be 73, RedHeaded, still kicking, still a FORCE to Contend with, and an 11 week old bypasser. My surgery date was September 5, 2018, a few blips and a roadblock or 2, but Honey I will still make it to that finish line with all you Kids. Drop me a post anytime you want to talk, I discuss most everything but I listen too!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
