I had those same thoughts that you guys are having and was overwhelmed at times, I focused on the future to get me through and the reasons I was doing this in the first place. Yes it sucks that we got to this place but we have the oppprtunity to correct ourselves and to do something for ourselves that is truly wonderful.

As the guys have said do something nice now to cheer yourself up, I went to a spa the day before surgery and felt completely relaxed after it, even got myself a massage.

Now cheer up hold your head high and dont let this decision weigh you down. You got this and we're all here routing for you :)

Thank you Irish. Good words to hear.

Ok guys, surgery is done. Today has been ok overall, I’ve had a lot nausea and dry heaving (I have nothing in my system to throw up!!) every time I sit up or move. For me the worst part has been this insane pressure and tightness in my chest, they say it’s reflux but it’s so painful for me!!!!! When I sleep it goes away, so I’m heading to bed for the night at 6:35. Surgery itself was a breeze, I remember nothing.
One day at a time!!!! Here’s to the new me!

I'm doing fantastic! My surgery went perfectly, no problems at all. I stayed overnight and was released by 5pm Wednesday. They had me up and walking within 3 hours. I walked most of the time I was there. I had a bit of pain but nothing unbearable.

I'm feeling pretty great now. My program's plan has me on blendered foods already, which makes me happy. I've tolerated everything I've tried so far. I've been managing to get all of my Protein in no problem, Water has been a challenge but so far I'm getting the minimum. So far, so good!

I am excited for You! I wish you luck!

That's great! So happy for you! I've been reading a lot of posts about people being super nauseous and throwing up a lot after surgery. Wondering if that was normal for everyone or what!

I was only nauseous when I woke up the day after surgery but I had a lot of pain that morning and a throbbing headache. We attributed it to that because the phenergan in combo with the pain meds squashed that cold. I haven't been nauseous since. I am burping a LOT though and things sometimes feel stuck for a minute or two in my esophagus but nothing too terrible.

Well, that eases my mind. I'm on the clear liquid diet right now and I'm sticking to it strictly! So I hope that helps! Lol

Lying in bed, sleepy, medicated, tired, but ok. Woke up throwing up a few times, that is NO JOKE! Hopefully tomorrow will better.
Try to sniff some medical alcohol swabs, it helped me with the nausea, all the best

I’m 4 days away I was totally fine now freaking out a bit. And VSG David u seemed like you were doing so well before...
At the bigening the ride is rough yeah no jocke, but to me, 5th day post op, feeling much better.. it's ok to be bit nervous but don't freak out [emoji1] it's all gonna pass.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
