Lost Weight But No Clothing Sizes Change...

Recommended Posts

I am new here, and I DID a search but this type of question is hard to find in a search, at least with the keywords I used...

I have been banded for 13 months now. I should have reached out for more help over the year, but instead I was noncompliant basically and ate only once a day, NO Protein drinks, no Vitamin, etc....

Good news is, I did lose 43 pounds in a year.

My question to all of you out there, when you lost say, 40 pounds, did you have changes in your clothing sizes?? I have noticed other people in their signatures, for example, someone lost 50 pounds, went from 26 to 18. I have lost 43 pounds and went from a size 26 to.......26. Nothing has changed. I understand everyone loses weight in different places and all that...but wouldn't SOMETHING be different??

People say they can see it in my face, but I can't. I've looked at pictures from the past year and can't see a difference either. I know it's not the NUMBER such as clothing size that matters, but it sure would be nice to go down in sizes. I feel like, 43 pounds, while others have lost that in a couple of MONTHS here, but given the fact I didn't do what I'm supposed to, I am happy that I lost that. 43 is significant when you look at it as 43 cans of food you know? I'm just surprised I don't have any changes in my clothing. But... I haven't bought any new clothes either. Maybe they have shrunk?? LOL..........

Do any of you have similar stories where you have lost 40+ pounds but not changed any clothing sizes??

I have a friend who lost about that much and didn't change clothing sizes. Part of it was that her clothes fit differently however--no longer quite so tight. Personally, even though I am pushing 70 pounds now, I am still wearing some of my old clothes. They don't fit perfectly anymore, but I can't see spending a lot of money on new stuff now when still I want to lose another 60+. I've had to buy some pants for work, but I have enough tops. Hang in there--you will see a big change all of a sudden!

There used to be a thread called "how much can you pack into a pair of pants???"

This woman lost 40 lbs and was wearing the same pants too! I have changed sizes now but there are a couple of pants that I still wear that are stretch material. I think if your pants are made of stretch.....they just do not stretch as much!

I also laugh when I see the diet pill commercials that claim " I lost 20 lbs and went from a size 20 to a size 4!! What a load of crap!

Good Luck!

ive lost 30 so far and still wear the same size. but i knew that would happen, I expect to be in a size 24 pants till i each at least 280. That will be totall of around 60lbs. My XL shirts do fit again where they were tight at 345.

Smaller people move clothes sizes with less numeric weight loss. A 20lb visual difference is more obvious on a 150 person than a 350lb person.

I sure wish my 30lbs moved me to an 18 but alas it hasnt happened.

I've lost 43# -- about 23 of that since the day of the surgery, 3 months ago. My waistbands are only slightly looser. My tops a bit looser still -- but nothing to write home about. However, my wedding ring can go off and on now without greasing my finger and several pairs of my shoes -- the wide-width ones -- are uncomfortably loose. Meaning I'm almost afraid to wear them afraid they'll cause me to trip or something!

A neighbor who's been on the road and hasn't seen me since two-days post op saw me in the yard yesterday and went on and on and on about how much he could tell I'd lost. I still suspect he might've just been being nice! LOL

I am having the opposite issue right now. I haven't lost any weight in 2 weeks but my clothing is getting looser and looser - I almost have nothing left to wear.

I've lost 35# but haven't changed clothing sizes yet. All my life I lose in the top first and then in the bottom but this time its the opposite- which has really thrown me. My pants are loose but all my tops still fit.

Hi:

I've lost 81 pounds so far. I started with size 26/28 for pants and yesterday I put on a pair of 20's. I heard someone once say 20 pounds per size.

Good luck.

Sue

Wow, congrats on your weight loss! That's wonderful.

That's true, too, no sense in buying a whole new wardrobe when you will have lost even more. Makes sense!

Thanks for the response!

You also make a good point...most of mine are stretchy material, that might be why...except for those jeans, ugh! LOL yeah those commercials, so ... what's the word... misleading...or misconception, or whatever it is!!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
