Anyone lose motivation leading up to surgery?

I need to get back on track. I started this journey in May with my visit to the surgeon. I had 2 support groups, visit to cardiologist, psych evaluation and was going strong. I just had my 4th nutrition visit and have 2 left before all my pre surgery requirements are complete. But. Im losing my motivation to having this surgery.

I like to eat, and am afraid of the big lifestyle changes. I want to be healthy and be able to climb stairs, get rid of my diabetes and hypertension and high cholesterol, but I need to get motivated again.

Anyone been through this? Any suggestions for getting back on track?

I lost more weight during preop and almost debated on going without the surgery. But honestly, going through with the surgery was the best decision of my life.

I am now almost 6 weeks (2 days shy) post op and can begin exploring all regular foods. The positive is definitely that I don't crave or desire junk food. I'm learning every day to trust my body when it says it's full as not to overeat.
And despite the weight loss stalls (and they will happen), I'm still very happy with my progress. I don't want to always feel tired, I am enjoying watching my body become shapely vs just a very large blob.
While it feels like the motivation is going, remember your journey is just beginning and will get very exciting quickly.

I think a lot of people have those second thoughts. I know I did. And right after surgery, I had a bit of buyers remorse. Now I am almost a month out, down 25 lbs, and am super happy with my decision. What you need to realize is all these foods you love and crave- well it won't be as strong after surgery. My kids had pizza last night and it did not bother me one iota. Someday I will be able to have pizza again, but instead of eating 3-4 slices, maybe I will have one.

My clothes are getting loose, my energy is going up and my aches and pains are decreasing. It's already worth it.

I’ve finished the six months of nut classes and just received my insurance approval this week. I got serious cold feet when the office tried to schedule me for rny in mid November. I’ve spent eight months on this exploration which is life changing in so many ways. Seems the positives are 100-1 but it’s still scary to me. My neighbor had it ten years ago and is a totally different person. I’ve really watched him over the last year and that’s where I want to be but the short term seems like it’s the hardest.

I too, started between March and May on my journey. Friday 10/5/18 is my sleeve surgery date. I was required to do a 2 week liquid diet.. Hard but dedication. Am I nervous, as two virgins on their wedding night. But looking back at pictures and remembering feeling mortified looking at myself in a full body mirror and not able to enjoy life.. feeling my lowest point when weight started to nag at who I was and where I wanted to be... all the procrastination went out the window. Don’t give up. I was robbed of who I’m supposed to be and Friday I will collect justice.

I am 3 weeks from surgery and losing my once enthusiastic willpower; some of it is fear of failure and some of it is simply a lack of motivation in general. Every day for the next 3 weeks I need to just keep reminding myself all of the reasons I am doing this. Make a list of all the awesome things you can't wait to do once you're fit. I try to talk about it on FB with my friends a lot... making plans for all the hikes we will do and places we will go that I haven't been able to do in so long. I think everything we are feeling is totally normal.

Thanks, mousecat88. And thanks to all who replied! I Do need to remember why I'm doing this. I'm frustrated by folks (psychiatrist and a friend from work) who insist I can just lose the weight through diet and exercise alone, and that I don't need the surgery. Everyone is worried that it's too drastic. I saw the surgeon today and feel a renewed motivation! Let's get rid of those comorbidities!!!

My surgeon told me only 1% of people with 100+ lbs to lose can keep it off long-term without weight loss surgery. I certainly believe him after how much I've tried. Even if you can lose it all without the surgery, chances are you'd gain most back. The surgery actually changes your metabolism to that of a skinny person... dieting and exercise.... you still have a fat person's metabolism, which is why it is SO hard to lose and maintain. That's another thing I need to remember!
