Hi guys! I’m new to the group. I’m 13 days Post Op and I am having a hard time getting any Protein in. I’m about to try the protein shot and the Syntrax Nectrum. Thank you

Generally in the first couple weeks after surgery, most people will find it difficult to meet their daily Protein and Fluid requirements. That is because your body is in a major heal mode. Just keep working towards your daily goal and you should be able to get there shortly.

Many experience problems drinking Protein Shakes. I hated them. But in the beginning I drank them, three 16-ounce protein shakes a day, in order to meet my protein requirements. You do not have to like protein shakes only tolerate them. There are many varieties of protein shakes available today. Experiment until you can find one you can tolerate.

I used Muscle Milk Light (Vanilla Creme) powder blended with Water and a half a banana. That worked for me. But on the opposite end of the spectrum, you might try premixed Isopure.

I hated Protein Shakes at the start - most were way too sweet. Eventually I settled on a recipe I like for Breakfast - the least sweet vanilla PP I have found, one shot of chilled coffee (Nespresso the night before) a glut of milk and 7 ice cubes, blended coffee-vanilla slush ice!

But to start I relied on the Protein Soups from the BariatricPal Store. They are delicious!

I made homemade Bone Broth Soups then strained it. Keeping veggies, meats, etc separate (this is the way we eat Soup anyway, so it wasn't a hassle). I also found that Amazon sells WonderSlim products including BariWise. Both of which have shakes/pudding including jellos and soups mixes - the pudding mixes have been a huge help especially when I no longer can tolerate Protein Shakes.

The BP store has protein soups which I mixed with canned soups to give a little more substance.

I love the Protein Shots from the BP store, but beware, they are very acidic and may be too much for your stomach right now.

I am using the first Premier Protein waters. They are not bad, but i do dilute them with Water to cut some of the sweetness. My brother bought me several cases at SAMS Club.

Sent from my SM-G965U using BariatricPal mobile app

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
