Just got banded 11/7

Recommended Posts

Hi. I just got banded last Wednesday, 11/7. Came home from the hospital after a rough first night. The worst pain I feel is where the port is placed, is that normal? How long with that take to subside. My stomach is making some funky noises, and i'm tyring to stick to the post op diet they gave me. I dont have much of an appetite, but am drinking what they tell me to. Two weeks of full liquids and than on to mushies. I hear you get hungry once you heal and am not looking forward to that part. Anyway, figured I would say hi to all!!

Hello - I hope your healing goes well! I'm banded 3 weeks today (Oct 19th). My port area is still sore sometimes, I think it takes a good 4 weeks (or more) to totally heal that area. Don't get me wrong, it's MUCH better now than 1 week post-op. Every now and then I'll bend the wrong way, or stretch ... EEEYOWCH! Just hang in there, after 2 weeks you'll feel much better, then it's just little "reminders" of pain here and there.

Good luck!

Hi There,

Congrat's on your banding. I am in my 3rd month of insurance qualification. One more month to go and I should have a surgery date. How did you process go, were you self pay or insurance. What did they make you do to prep for surgery?

Thanks,

Michelle

Hi.. Thanks for all the support. I had a BMI of 40.5 with sleep apnea, border line blood sugar and high blood pressure. My liver is oversized and i have falbladder full of stones, so i got approved through my insurance (oxford - liberty) pretty easily. I went through all the tests and followed a strict liquid diet the week before. Haven't lost any weight yet, but am sure in time it will come. Good Luck :P

Hi Everyone! I was also banded on Nov 7th. I am sore, I was able to go out to the store for a little bit. I am having a hard time with the liquid diet. I am hungry...I don't know about this liquid diet for a week. Does anyone else have this problem?

Minidee...yes the liquid diet is hard. Although I didn't feel much like eating the first 4 days or so. But here is a couple things I did which helped. I love egg drop Soup. So I had my hubby go get a couple orders of it, I strained the egg out and ate the broth...yummie! Then another day I made mock italian beef for hubby in the crockpot. I put a round steak, 2 cans beef broth and 1 pkg. italian dressing mix, cook about 6 hrs. in crockpot, then when I took the meat out for him, I strained the broth and drank that for a couple of days, these are much better than the broth you buy in a can. Just having the flavor helped me through. I ate alot of SF Jello too

Deb, you really know how to improvise. I am writing down that recipe and keeping it for when I get banded. Round steak is the cut of mean right? and the dressing you are speaking about, is it the dressing in the little envelope? Sorry for all the questions.

Regards,

Alfie

yes you could actually use any cut of lean beef, the crockpot tenderizes it. Yes the italian dressing mix in the evelope. Don't worry bout the questions...that's ok. Try it out, it really helped

ok, thanks Deb. One question I forgot to ask, should I brown the meat first or just put it in the crock pot raw. Thanks,

Alfie

Yeah, this Italian Beef does sound really good! Also sounds like it would be good for someone that is dieting. DH is going to be cutting back on bad foods while I'm getting banded, so this would be perfect! Thank you so much for sharing!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
