The One Year Sleeviversary Today!

Recommended Posts

At this time last year, I was dressed in my preop gown and socks waiting to be wheeled into the room to start my new adventures. It’s crazy that it was exactly a year ago.

Boy. It’s been a joy, and rough, and wonderful, and frustrating and so many things. I have been a super super slow loser. I started at 268 and have lost a total of 63 pounds in a year and I have worked SOOOO hard for every single last one of those pounds. I’m only 5’3”, so I still have a LONG way to go. I won’t lie, I started into this thinking hey...this will easy peasy. How could it not? I have no stomach and won’t be hungry. It’s not. Sure at first, you may drop pounds pretty quickly, but Head hunger is no joke folks. NO JOKE. You start thinking you are hungry right after you JUST ate! How is that possible? Head hunger. Have I been perfect and only eaten Protein with very few carbs? Most days yes...all days...no. I work out just about every day with the bike and weights and keep my calories at about 800 a day. Some days I’ll eat more or less and gain and lose regardless. Still haven’t solved the elusive puzzle on what works perfectly and sometimes have stalls for months! It’s been a rough journey but at the same time wonderful. I have discovered so much more about myself along the way. I have so much more self control than I thought I did, I’m stronger than I ever thought I could be...and I make mistakes. I’m also human and can get right back on the saddle when I fall off. As disappointed as I get with myself at my slow loss at times, i realize that I NEVER would have been able to do this on my own. For those of you doubting our decision...it works. You may not see the amazing and fast results some do, and that’s ok. Everyone is different. Keep plugging along. You can do this and it was a great decision.

i’m on my way to my appointment with my surgeon for my last check. I’m kind of embarrassed that I didn’t get under 200 like my goal was at least by this point. I will get there...when my body is ready for it. I’m going to keep plugging along!

I guess I wanted to write this for anyone that has recently been sleeved and is feeling discouraged about not having the kind of results you see others have. Assess if you can make any changes to what you are doing and keep going! You do YOU!! You got this!!

Good on you for writing. I am nearly one year and not had the experience others have had. But I too will keep chugging along. All the best to you and I bet you look great already.

Thank you for the great post @ElectricGypsy. My weight loss has been slower than expected, too. It's nice to know that I'm not alone in the slow lane!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
