Diet preachers are so irritating. I have someone in my life right now that won't stop pushing high-fat Keto (85% or more) on me. I've tried it, and it is not for me. Many people find themselves not hungry on that plan....I am ravenous, and I honestly find it kind of gross. Others are pushing plant based all the time. A great option if it works for you, but I not only enjoy dairy and meat but I lose better and feel better when I eat it. There is no one right way for anyone. The only diet that works is one you can stick with, something that is realistic for you and helps you mentally and physically feel good. I've always done best on moderate carb, moderate fat, high Protein, lots of veggies...and Portion Control. That's why I am choosing this surgery, because it will help me restrict my portions and push me toward protein and veggies while not completely eliminating carbs. That doesn't work for everyone, and I wouldn't push it on anyone. I wouldn't suggest any eating plan unless someone brought it up and asked. You can politely decline a food without getting into a whole speech about how gluten blows you up or how cows milk should only be ingested by baby cows. Just say "No, thank you." You can add a simple, "I refrain from X" if you must. If someone asks, and you are comfortable, by all means, give advice. You might help them. If they haven't asked though, no need to get into the details. Anyone dealing with any diet preachers?

I am in public safety where Keto is running rampant. There have been quite a few diet preachers that I have dealt with, even my best friend that was pretty unsupportive and was upset because intermittent fasting was working for him. He doesn't realize that we have different genetics. Most of his family is tall and skinny wile mine is short and overweight. I had tried most diets with short term success but he as well as those around me didn't understand that either. It was EXTREMELY aggravating and in the end I made my decision, didn't tell hardly anyone and know that I made the right choice for me. Everyone says that I look amazing and I feel amazing, you just have to know that you made the best choice for you and that it is your life not theirs!

Has anyone noticed that people who preach ad nauseam about this or that, rarely accept the same manner of preaching directed at them? They're good at dishing out one-size-fits-all advice but are often prone to react with hostility if their methods are challenged. Hard-core diet preachers can ruin a good day fast... if you let them. And that's the key. Don't let them get to you. You will be tested by people who want to bring you down; resist. You will be belittled by people with questionable agendas; don't let them get to you. Stay away from negative people. And if you can't stay away from them, figure out a way to tune them out. Be strong. And if you're a woman, be twice as strong. Girl power!

I have had so many experiences with these diet preachers, but they're not as annoying as the "Why don't you just love the way you are" preachers. Loving myself doesn't prevent diabetes and heart disease.

LOL! 🤣

Only diet preachers in my life are on bariatric pal! At first I thought your post was sarcastic and directed at people here.

I love coming here to read and learn the different diets that work for everyone, great place to get lots of food ideas. BUT, some people can get a little intense about their way being the only way.

You are absolutely correct. No one diet is right or wrong. As a firm believer in Keto (for myself) it did not work 100% on me. But what I did learn from it was that my body is very much gluten intolerant and my body starves for Proteins and veggies. The overall problem for me and why it didn't work was I not only have Uterine Fibroids but I also have Hypothyroidism. What works for one condition is counter-conductive to the other. meat proteins and estrogen grow fibroids. A plant based diet is not good for hypothyroidism. It was a lose-lose situation for me. Hence the final decision to have the surgery. I'm hoping my new stomach will serve a vessel that will nourish my body and continue to teach me what works and doesn't work all the while losing the weight I've been struggling with.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
