2018 Study: Weight loss surgery linked to better job prospects

Recommended Posts

“It is also well known that obese individuals face weight-bias job discrimination compared to non-obese individuals.
“This positive change is more obvious for women, who are more discriminated against than men for work, because of their obesity."
“It’s possible that losing weight helps people find work by improving their physical or mental health, or by making them less likely to experience weight-based discrimination when seeking employment.
Have you experienced what you felt deep down was weight-related discrimination? What about after your surgery and after you lost weight? Any difference?

I know that I have experienced discrimation based on my weight. I work in the medical field, which is very health and weight conscious, of course. I have a charge nurse who makes cutting remarks about weight, though I have objected enough that it has decreased some. Persons who smoke, and overweight persons, are the "safe" groups to discriminate against, IMO.
The viewpoint that these groups of people cause their own health issues by their actions, makes it ok to judge, mistreat, and discriminate (again, IMO)
Any agreement/disagreement?[emoji5]

Absolutely. However, I haven't gone on any interviews since surgery so I can't compare. I'm curious to see what others say. I do know that I would feel a lot more confident if I looked better and wasn't sweating!

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
