Did surgery change your food preferences?

Recommended Posts

It's been 3 years since my gastric bypass. There has been one thing that has been on my mind and I'd like some feedback. Prior to surgery, I LOVED olives. I always had them in the house and often made olive tapenade. Since my bypass, I have zero desire to eat them. I bought a jar recently and ate just one olive. It just didn't taste good to me anymore. I suspect that the surgery changed my food preferences.

Has anyone else found themselves disinterested in their old favorite foods after surgery?

Not me. Still like them all. I still love spicy, but it burns all the way down due to reflux. So, I've had to transition to milder foods.

I have found that I can eat (and even like) some foods that I hated before surgery, such as cottage cheese, but I haven't really found that I dislike anything that I used to like.

Like Orchids & Dragons, I love spicy foods, but I have to be careful about eating them now because I have gotten reflux from them since surgery, especially if I eat them in the late afternoon, evening hours.

No, I had to actively give things up to prepare for surgery ( cane sugar, agave Syrup, gave up honey 1 month post op, popcorn, seltzer)

However there are things I eat more of than ever before and its not because its all I can have, I just gravitate to it.

Did you get a get batch of olives somewhere along your journey? Or something went awry involving olives?

Hear me out... Pregnant with my first child I couldn't open the pickle jar for hrs (home alone, tired, sick, crying) husband (ex) comes in 6 hrs later and opens it no problem. I refused them & haven't touched pickles in 15 yrs. Can't stand the smell of them. food aversion , mild but still.

Thank you, 😖 I needed someone to side with me in a world that believes pickles are innocent...

The only innocents are the sweet, little gherkins. The rest are monsters!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
