I’m new to this forum, but had surgery on September 26, 2018. I’m 40.

Welcome! Hope you’re doing well!

I’m 42. I was 41 when I had my VGS. I’m feeling great & 100 pounds lighter with less than 10 pounds left to lose.

I have no regrets & am glad I did it when I did. I’ve no desire to have done it sooner. I believe it was done in God’s perfect timing when my mindset was ready to embark on this journey & maintain the weight loss.

Now that I am officially post surgery, I'm thinking I should have maybe done this earlier. My pain tolerance isn't what it used to be. 🙄

I’m so glad you shared this. I’m working to get to this point. I’m six weeks post-op now, and I’m a slow healer (always been this way) but looking forward to a year from now and encouraging others.

Congratulations to you and BEST wishes on continued and lifelong success.

I’m with you! I’m 44 and at first I thought, “man, I wish I’d done it sooner when i was younger, single, had hair 😂, etc.” but honestly, I don’t think it was God’s will for me then. He kept me healthy in spite of my excessive weight and up until last year, I had no intentions of having the surgery. And now, my mindset is clearly changed for the better. I’m eating way healthier, working out regularly and I’m just 10lbs away from meeting my goal. For me, God’s timing was the best timing!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
