Anyone not just stalled, but gained, weight Post-op week 2-3?

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone! I posted this similar post on a reply another post, but I thought I would start a new post.

I had a gastric sleeve 3/14/2016. I had a sleeve to bypass revision on 7/30/18 due to reflux and nausea, and to try to get me closer to my goal. I am post-op 15 days. I lost 14 pounds from 1 week pre-op and 1 week post-op clear liquid diet. I started full liquids on 8/5/2018 and started pureed (Mashables) two days ago, 8/12/18. I am staying around 60-70 grams of Protein per day and about 450-650 calories. I am struggling a little bit with getting my fluids in... I'm around 50 ounces per day of Water. The day I started full liquids (actually taking in any calories) I stopped losing any weight. I have now gained 3.6 pounds since Sunday, 8/5/18. My NUT told me yesterday that my body is holding on to every calorie right now and it will change in time. I am a little frustrated. Anyone have any thoughts on this? I would love to hear y'all's feedback!

Yes. Happens often.
Don't worry about ANY stall if you are doing exactly what you are supposed to be doing. Your body takes time to adjust and likes to fight changes... you'll be fine.

And couldn't you still have a little internal swelling and bloat? Your poor body was through a lot recently!

I agree with Matt.

Also, as a revision surgery you are likely to not lose as quickly someone who is having a bariatric surgery for the first time.

Let your body heal and follow the program and you will see results!

Good call on this one, @GB73018 us revisions tend to lose slower overall, just something else to watch out for and be ready for mentally. Even being aware of it, like I was, didn't prepare me for the frustration of watching others drop weight hand over fist while I just keep slowly losing.

But rest assured, if you keep yourself on track, you'll lose the weight just fine, it just might not seem as drastic as those that didn't have a WLS already.

Thanks! Yeah, I am prepared to lose slowly being a revision. I guess I’m just worried about how the scale is moving up for over a week now. Lol. I will definitely just keep going doing exactly what I’m supposed to be doing.

Water retention, muscle growth if you are working out, and your body trying to take a pause to adjust itself... all things that cause stalls or slight regains while are you staying on track with your water/protein/intake... really only time to worry too much about a stall or slight regain is if you know you are not following your diet/instructions.

Something else to be aware of, you can lose body fat and gain "weight" as odd as that sounds. It happens to me very often, ESP on the weeks when I'm hitting the gym hard and working on muscle growth. When I do a cardio only week or like now, taking time off due to some back issues (arthritis, yay) the weight starts dropping again.

Just work to focus on getting that water intake up, since our bodies use water to process fat, if we aren't getting enough to cover the daily requirements, plus the added fat reduction, things tend to bog down because our bodies have to prioritize the water usage and fat reduction tends to be less efficient with low water intake. By all means don't worry about it if you are having a hard time, just as long as you are continually trying to increase your water intake.

Good luck!

Hey everyone I had sleeve to bypass revision on June 13 I am down 34 pounds since then put I have hit a few stalls i weigh myself every day is that a good thing to do? I eat right, drink a lot of Water. It's kind of depressing but reading your posts helps a lot. I guess my question is how often should I weight myself.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
