Am I the only bandster not losing?

Recommended Posts

Hello all. I got my band on 08/31 and am not losing. I've had 1 fill on 10/13 of 1.8cc and it's hardly done anything for me. I can eat anything and still get hungry and can eat nearly as much as before. Am I incompatible with the band? Does it hate me? I thought I'd be able to eat like a "normal" person and have whatever only in small doses and instead I can have whater in big doses. Agh!!!

Liz, what you are experiencing is completely normal. You don't have restriction yet. It took me 5 fills to finally get to where I needed to be. Once you get there you will not longer be able to eat larger quantities of food nor will you be hungry. I would go back in for a fill right away. Good luck.

Sounds to me like you need another fill.

Thanks for the replies! I am going in for a fill this weekend. Hopefully I be perfect at around 2.5cc... I hope I hope! I've got to start losing soon! I would love to squeeze back into my premommy clothes!

I was banded on October 24th at Harper hospital in Detroit and my scales say that I have lost ten pounds, but I am wearing dresses that are a size or two smaller (depending on the make I guess.)

My measurements have changed a lot since then though. I lost 4 inches in the bust area, 5 in the waist, and 4 inches in the hips. I guess that that is better than nothing.

Please, what ever you do, keep trying. Though I am newly banded I realize the positivity of banding together at times to give each other some much needed "juju." lol.

I too can still eat anything I want to without the feeling of fullness until I have eaten way too much and I had my first fill on October 24, the DR. put in 3cc and I have never felt full on the 1/2 cup of food they say will satisfy you so I am going back for a second fill on nov.14 and hope to start feeling full and losing the weight. hang in there sometimes it takes several fills to feel full. good luck

The same happened to me - it just takes time and everyone is different. A few more fills and you will really notice the difference and you will only be able to eat a little. Mine is comming off slow but that's a good thing

It was 10 weeks after surgery til I lost my first pound.

1 fill 6 weeks after of 2cc

another fill 4 weeks later of .2cc

I have a 4cc band.

Don't expect to lose anything until you get restricted.

I was banded on 7/31 and just came on the board to post the same question. I have 1.5 cc in a 4 cc band and feel completly the same as before being banded. I am feeling completly discouraged. I'm going on 12/5 for another .5 cc and am so hoping this will do the trick. Hubby keeps asking what I am doing wrong, and I tell him it takes time but in my mind I am wondering if this is ever going to work. I am up about 4-5 lbs since being banded, and everytime I see the scale going up I want to cry. I will be joining a gym this coming week, and I know exercise is very important, but I want the help from the band that I was expecting. Hopefully on Wednesday it will kick in. Ok, done now. LOL.

Lisa

Hi there!

Don't panic yet! It takes more than one fill to feel restriction. In the meantime, just do the best you can to follow the diet plan you were given. Be sure to get your Protein and Water in every day--it might help you not get so hungry.

Good luck and hang in there!

I've been frustrated, too. I knew that my body was healing and it's not even been a month. I've been doing the right thing everyday and exercising. I know that my shape is changing because I am fitting in all kinds of stuff and am now the proud owner of 4 pairs of jeans that are huge on me! I think things are evening out, though, because in the last 3 days, I've lost 4 lb. and I'm not doing anything different. Hang in there. It happens at a different pace for all of us.

Even before my first fill i lost really good. Just having the band in helped reduce hunger for me. I also write down every thing i eat.It helps me not to get carried away I go to the gym at least four times a week. often times five. You really have to help the band work. Hope this helps some. Also i do drink a lot of Water. Best of luck.

Unless you are one of the lucky FEW who get good restriction just with their band in place, it isn't going to start working for you until you get GOOD RESTRICTION. I was VERY good post op, and did lose about 23 pounds initially, but the minute I could start getting fills I was on my doctor's doorstep. I got no restriction at all until my third fill, and then things started to really take off. By then I had been retraining myself how to eat, and then when the band kicked in, my portions went waaaaaayyyyy down. All I had to be concerned with was making right choices, because regardless of what I ate...I would definitely NOT be eating very much of it. It will come, but it may take a little time.

:help:I was banded on November 12th. I started at 310 lbs. and I lost 30 pounds the first two weeks:clap2:, then stopped short and am hovering around 284. Everyone sees a difference in my appearance but my weight loss has bottomed out. I have not began a regular exercise routine and expect this to begin this week. I have been scared to lift anything. My port site just stopped hurting. I am hungry most of the time :hungry:and must admit I am having trouble binging. I go for my first fill next week. I honestly do not know what I should be eating. Anyone know of any good sites with diet and recipes or books?

Thanks Ant

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
