tightness in rib cage area

Recommended Posts

I'm almost three months post op sleeve surgery. Ive been pretty lucky and have not had many issues but I do have this tightness feeling through rib cage area. At two weeks post op I saw my primary care doctor and told him about the tightness. He was not concerned and said my body will continue to change.

The feeling is a tightness. Sometimes worse than others. Feels like i am unable to take in deep breaths. I had sleeve and gastric sleeve surgery. I don't have any pain. Wondering if anyone else has had this weird feeling.

Thank you

Vega I thought I was the only one with this. It does not appear to have anything to do with eating sometimes it happens late in the evening while watching TV. I had a Gastric Bypass about 4 years ago and this just started about 1 year ago. It takes my breath away and sometimes it gets a little scary. Would love to know if I can do something to avoid this. It doesn’t happen all the time but when it does, does not feel good at all.

Ive been putting off going back to the doctor since I do not want to create a bunch of medical bills due to testing he will put me through. I have been hoping it will pass but has me worried. Mine also will happen at night and does not happen after eating. I am thinking I will have to tell the doctor when I go in for follow up.
Thank you for response and I hope yours goes away!

I don't think mine I'd gherd. Its a tightness like they stitched me up too tight. Sounds silky I know. I had sleeve and hiatal hernia repair at same time. Sometimes I feel like a can't get a deep breathe. And then sometimes it seems the more I think about it the more often it happens. I'm so frustrated with it...I waa hoping it would pass since there's no painor other issues.will have to mention to doctor again

I am 6 months post op from the sleeve and started to feel similar achy right side rib cage pains that come and go. Its hard to put a finger on it as to where its coming from. For me it feels like a soreness that comes about when I move or stretch my torso or upon certain deep breathes. Its not constant I can be fine and then all the sudden feel it.

Originally thought it was a lung infection and got all types of test ran which all came back negative. Ruling that out leads me to believe it is musculoskeletal. Whatever it is I have my good days and bad days with it. Like Vegassurvivor states hopefully its just one of the body changes we must go thru. Are you guys still feeling this side effect?

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
