Marginal/anastomotic ulcer anyone?

Recommended Posts

So sorry you're going through this. I'm also having problems again. I eat, but it hurts all the time. I'm now taking protonix twice a day ands sucralfate multiple times a day now. I had another EGD done about a month ago and the office was supposed to call for a follow up (what my mom said, but I think I was supposed to call them). I'm still having issues. Still frequently vomit. Constantly have gas and pain. I'm tired of it. I had to switch to whole Fairlife milk to get my Protein in and coat my stomach enough. After the EGD mom said the dr told her the wasn't much change in my ulcer. But I hadn't been taking the sucralfate either. I had a major brain dump in September (18 years of amnesia because of a Migraine medicine) and didn't know I was supposed to be taking it. Now I'm waiting for a call back from the doctor to see when I can get back in to see them since things should be getting better and they aren't.

Well get back on the Carafate, it is supposed to help the ulcers heal, I am chugging down the slurry every 6 hours, and I don't much like it. I say it tastes like flour Water, but I have to be on it 3 months minimum. And you're lucky if you get enough Protein by mouth, that's one of the reasons I have the PICC line, I just couldn't. In some ways I like my TPN, I have felt much better all the way around, but there is always a risk of getting an infection in my blood stream. Today while I was off getting my twice weekly, blood draw, they called from OSU, the woman today said they might wait until January 25 for the next scope, not what I was told last week. Maybe one hand doesn't know what the other is doing. Woman today said she spoke with Dr Noria, nurse last week said she talked to Dr Needleman, He's my surgeon but she does the scoping, nurse said he wanted the results before January 15th. So I guess I call back on the 2nd, scheduler had already left when I returned. her call.
My pouch is happy today so far, but I haven't ate anything by mouth, try her and she will complain,

Still having pain in that ulcer area, the right subcostal, where if I had a gall bladder, that's where I feel it. And today I threw up again, and my,mind wanted that Soup so bad, and my pouch refused to hold it in so it could digest!

I had RNYGB about 10 years ago, dropped from just 0ver 400 to 175 in 7 months, I have varied up to 210 and back down again since. I am currently at 178 so I would say it was a success, I developed strictures with what VA called an Anastomotic Ulcer between 2 strictures, they decided to use a balloon to open the strictures so I could swallow my pills. You can probably guess the result, one perforated intestine. It is amazing how little the VA knows about these procedures and it took years to get put on instant release meds, I am still on extended release omeprazole because that is the only option VA gives the Doctors, I have been on a feeding tube since Aug 2019 and just received another 3 months supply of solution, because of multiple strictures they are against trying anything else. So other than not being able to eat a hamburger in 10 years and now not being able to eat anything thicker than cream Soup strained I am actually quite glad that I had the procedure. Now if I could get enough food in me so I quit winding up in the Hospital for Malnutrition I would be perfect, not the fault of the RNYGB

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
