2 Months and 1 week post op sleeve

Recommended Posts

I am 2 months and 1 week post op sleeve and it still hurts to drink Water. I get this painful feeling in my gut when I drink water. I am not getting anywhere near the amount of required water. Anyone have any thoughts?

What'd your Doctors say about it when you asked them?
Have you tried adjusting the temp of the water?
Does it happen with all fluids or just water?
Does it happen with flavored water?

I have not asked them yet.

It would be a good idea to do so. That's what they are there for... and they really *SHOULD* be made aware of any issues you have... encase it's a larger issue that they need to address.

I mean I can drink Water it is just that I get full from it pretty quickly and then my stomach feels full and there is some what I would call fullness pain. It is the same pain that I get if I eat too much food.

How much are you drinking how fast? I'd suggest whatever amount/speed you are doing now, try to slow it down a bit to give your stomach a bit more time for the liquids to pass though.

Does the sensation change with temp changes, Fluid changes ETC?

I have been drinking the Water cold from the fridge. I try and drink it too fast I think.

Try room temp (I know it's not as good!) Or using a smaller cup and setting a timer. It sounds like you are drinking a bit too fast. Worth trying to pace it out or see if temp changes things. Colder Water is denser than warm, AND cold water makes our body work harder to warm it up.

Thank you Matt, I will do that.

Hot Water or Decaf tea worked for me when that happened. Good luck

It sounds silly, but do you have one of those medicine cups laying around the house somewhere? If so, you might try to fill it and drink it over the course of 10 minutes, 5 sips total. Most medicine cups are 1 ounce. If you practice these 5 small sips over the course of 10 minutes, it may help you find a pace that works for you. This is something that is recommended by my program for post-op. I will be trying it for myself. My surgery is on August 1st and it is the sleeve!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
