It’s like the first time all over again...

Recommended Posts

Has anyone felt like everything they eat post op is like the first time all over again? I feel like I’m in a foreign land and have to test every food again for taste and digest-ability. It’s going to be a long time before I’ve covered all foods again and know what is off limits.

I guess I'm the opposite. I jumped into real food again on a work trip, and ate tons of different things that week (like 12 course meals each night!). Nothing bothered my stomach. So from then on I don't really even think about if something will upset my stomach, because nothing really has.

I run into the occasional food where my pouch says "Heck no", but it's usually something like cold/dry meat or something a little too tough. It will be an adventure to say the least.

Yes, I feel this way. It is pretty exhausting for me really

Exhausting yes! And I don’t like to try anything new unless I’m at home!

I’m having zero issues with food at the moment, I’m 4 weeks post so haven’t tried everything yet.

I’m following some simple rules, nothing from a drive through 😀, and only delicious food.

I went out last week and we had a degustation menu, 4 courses of small amounts. I had Japenese style oyster, Pernod infused ocean trout, seared scallops and a small roasted potato in duck fat. All up it was about 2/3 of a cup over 2 hours with wine pairings. It was fabulous.

I think I’m very lucky, I feel for those having issues.

Aside from not being hungry it’s hard for me to believe I even had surgery. My nutritionist signed off on the menu, I emailed it to him the week before the dinner 🤣

Hi Ash,

I see you were operated on Jan 18. I am still in learning curve and being operated on in September. Am I right that is 6months later and you're still having to experiment with foods? Will life ever be kinda normal again? Am VERY nervous

Yes, I’m 5 months post op, six months on July 19th. I feel like it takes time to reintroduce foods. There are foods you don’t eat often and when the time comes, it’s a learning curve all over again. Things that you eat pre op might not sit well post op. This is why I feel like a food virgin sometimes. Not all bad, just a part of the process.

Your weightless is great Ash!

at 5mths what are you eating/drinking in a day?

I eat pretty balanced throughout the day. I eat carbs as well, usually keep it around 60 grams max. But I eat all types of meats, and soy meat at least 3 times a week. I eat fruits and veggies as Snacks. I also like to eat whole grains a few times a week as well. There isn't a whole lot i've found that upsets my stomach, but when I do find those items, i don't give up on them just yet. I will try it again at least twice to see if it has the same affect.

You have to judge what’s best for you. I don’t have vomiting, but sometimes nausea or discomfort with certain foods. I wouldn’t stress about it. When the time comes, you will know what to do.

I totally feel this way! I am never quite sure about trying foods. Say to myself "is this worth the potential belly ache?" a lot.

Finding that I need to be careful with salads. Can eat some, but not for too many meals in a row. My sleeve gets angry if I make it digest too much tough Fiber.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
