Single Incision Gastric Sleeve- August 13th Surgery Date!

Recommended Posts

Hey all! Sooooo I am very excited as I just got my surgery date-August 13t!!! I would love to connect with a surgery date buddy out there. The last few weeks have been a whirlwind. While I have wanted to surgery for years, I finally started heavily researching it, and found a surgeon. Made an appointment one week, the next week went in for all the pre-op work, and now I have my surgery date!

It was important for me to get a single incision gastric sleeve surgery. One of the only ones I could find was Dr. Garber in New York. I am flying in from KY and self paying for the surgery. So that's a big monetary commitment but honestly, I know this is the right decision for me.

Just wondering if anyone else has had the single incision surgery? What was your experience like?

Hello. I will be getting a single incision sleeve done on 6/28 but in Mexico with Dr. Ponce. I will definitely let you know how it goes and answer any questions you may have when I’m post op.

Wish me luck and a speedy recovery!!

@Elle_Woods best of luck to you! I've never heard of a single incision surgery. How interesting. Is it laparoscopic?

@jodi1980 thank you! :) it is, and it is literally done through one incision in the belly button....so no visible scar! I am going through the New York Bariatric group and Dr. Garber is doing my surgery. He is one of the most experienced in the single incision sleeve surgery.

Dr Garber is right across the street from me. How did you decide on him?

And I'm not exactly sure what product he uses to do it, but single site often isn't done through only the button.

Yes they use only one trocar, but the rest of the surgery is usually done through percutaneous instruments which they just stick through the skin (and then assemble through the other trocar and then unassemble the same way)

The instruments are incredibly small and I imagine they leave little to no scar, but they still go through the skin. It's because of their modular nature that they can be so small and not need a trocar

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
