Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies: POST-OP Discussion

Recommended Posts

I’ve been walking a ton, been on treadmill since day 4, I got up at 4 am and put in an hour slow walk, By 11am I took a 30 min walk outside, about to get on the treadmill (very very slow), drinking and peeing a lot too ,so yeah ... maybe my body is just in shock and hanging on to the fluids.
Sheesh how in the world can you do all that?!? I barely have the energy to walk between bed and bathroom!

I have the same goals and honestly I don't see how the hell I can get in 60 Protein. I can only eat about 1/4 cup per meal and depending on what I eat maybe it's 5 g. That means I need to eat 12 meals!
Protein shakes. I made myself drink a 2nd today

I’m three weeks post op today and can finally say that I’m starting to feel like I have enough energy to get through the day! Let me tell you, there were some days I really wasn’t sure lol once the kiddos are back in school (district is currently on strike) then this mama is going to hit the gym!

Can you make large batches and freeze for future use? Quite frankly I'm very lazy. I don't like to cook etc (husband cooks). It's just so much easier to have ready to drink/eat type stuff. But the drinks I've tried that are the "shakes" are now too sweet and make me nauseous. I found some Protein "drinks" (more like a punch) that I loved pre surgery but post surgery ended up being the cause of a bunch of issues I had that ended up sending me back to the Dr for dehydration etc. Turns out I need to stay away from sucralose.

I buy Premier Protein chocolate pre made, and it seems the least sweet.

I've not tried pre-making. But I travel with Protein Powder and have been known to bring a shaker bottle with Almond Milk.

I also keep a 1/2 gal of Almond Milk at work with a personal blender in my office.

I’m down for the count at the moment. Waiting for a call back from my pcp about a uti test which I think turned to a bladder infection (lucky me no symptoms till the whole thing started hurting and burning) we suspect that’s what put me in the ER yesterday.

You poor dear, hang in there! Lots of Water or diluted cranberry might help. For me, a single dose of Monurol diluted in water and in a few hours I’m symptom free, ask about it! Vrs a ton of pills. It’s a life saver!

Well mostly muscle memory from when I had the sleeve 3 years ago. The more you walk, the quicker and better you will heal. I mostly do it to keep depression at bay cuz all these changes on top of surgery can send you into a tail spin funk. So instead of focusing on what I can’t do (eat what I want), I focus on what I can do about it... sip n move

Had my GB on the 6th so 21/2 weeks out and already lost 19lbs. I am a little surprised that my blood sugar numbers have not come down much farther but maybe because I am still healing. I still get a bit nauseous when I drink Water or eat but it is getting a little better. I have found a wonderful Protein Shake that I really like I just wish I could get a flavor other than chocolate lol. Never in my wildest dreams thought I would be sick of chocolate! It is called Orgain Clean Protein and it is Gluten free, 140 calories, 20g Protein 2g fat, 10 carbs, 3 Fiber and 4 sugars. It is also Soy free, non-GMO and Grass fed. You can get a big box of 11 oz. Individuals at costco for like $18. It works ot to admit a $1 a shake if you all are interested. Congratulations to all who have had their surgeries and best of luck to those getting ready. Looking forward to hearing all your experiences.

Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app

If you look on the costco website they have a variety of the flavors.

Question for all of you... how many calories is everyone averaging?

I’ve been on my three week stall for about 3 weeks now. 😩😩

I’m six weeks out and I’m averaging about 600-800 calories a day with around 60-80g of Protein. I’ve been hitting my fluid goals and trying to be active (though I could do better on working out).

I know stalls are normal but 3 weeks seems like an excessive amount of time to be stalled for so soon after surgery.

I was sleeved on 7/31 and whew, it's been a journey! I'm happy with my weight loss progress and that 3 week stall can be discouraging for sure! I was so happy to see the scale move again. LOL I had developed a slight infection at my big incision and took a round of antibiotics and went on a trip for 10 days. I had to do my 2 week post op nutritional counseling via video conference while I was on my trip and I didn't get to see my surgeon until I got back. By that time, my incision had closed completely but was getting bigger and at first I thought it was a crazy fast keloid (I'm prone to those) but then I realized it was Fluid. When I went in to see my surgeon, she cut into the site and showed me how to pack it with gauze. She gave me another round of antibiotic too. I go back to see her in 2 weeks. In the meantime, she cleared me to start some light cardio. Today was my first day to work up a little bit of a sweat, and I mean little because I stopped after 10 minutes. I'm starting with Leslie Sansone and I hope to do 20 minutes tomorrow.

I've been eating around 600 calories +/-100 per day and trying hard to get 64 oz of Water. I think I'll get it today and today will be the first day that I've taken all my Vitamins and Calcium. I'm getting the hang of this new life!

I'm six weeks out and seem to be retaining Water, my feet and ankel's puff up. I'm finding it hard to get all my water in, maybe that's why? Anyone else having this issue?

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
