Clear Liquids? Oi! I had Tomato Soup with 2 ounces of lean chicken Italian sausage in it the nigh before my surgery!

Ask if if you can have egg drop soup! It is low cal, low carb, and has Protein.

Good luck!

24 hours post op from surgery yesterday Aug 22. Spirits good but pain is tough. Hope to maybe go home today- see what Dr has to this this AM

I’m 24 hours post-op, also. The pain has been worse than I expected, too. I won’t go home til tomorrow. Good luck! Feel better!

I am now 3 days post op and cut myself off of all pain meds on day 1 at discharge. I feel tightness near the incision where stomach was pulled through, but each day it has been less and less painful.

I'm struggling with Protein / Water intake. I haven't found a comfortable temperature for swallowing. Right now I feel everything I swallow.

Gas pains are easing up, my sense of smell has heightened, I smell everything...I am still quite swollen, but getting up / down is getting more easy

Hi guys,

Had my surgery on Tuesday. Went home yesterday, its so much nicer being at home. That hospital bed is just so uncomfortable. Today has been drinking walking and sleeping...Not too much pain, thank goodness. Thinking of all you folks going thru this!

Hello everyone just a quick note to say that I am alive and well. Surgery went well yesterday and save an uncomfortable night with a drain in my side and with a catheter and not being allowed to drink until the next morning when they could do a barium swallow I have done OK I think. I was discharged today and sent home I have been doing my breathing exercises and walking every hour or two for substantial period of time but still cannot get the gas out of that is trapped in my lower abdomen just wondering how long it took for all of you to be able to pass the gas out I know I will feel better if I do.

I have also been able to drink quite a bit 16 ounces of diluted pear juice 8 ounces of Optifast Protein and a cup of chicken broth which is way more that I could do following my sleeve surgery. I do wish I could eat, I miss eating even this close after surgery but I know I can’t maybe it’s just in the head

Thank you all so very much for your encouraging words the prayers and well wishes prior to my surgery I needed all of it and it made a world of a difference in my confidence level going in.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
