Reading this thread makes me want to choose the sleeve over bypass! Not sure I can put up with all that gas!!

Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app

I'd rather have a bit more gas and nasty poops than deal with reflux issues personally.

Speaking of nasty... I feel today is going to be a rough one...

I agree with Matt Z. If I had to choose I would gladly take the smelly poop and gas over acid reflux. Good thing I drive a forklift at work so no one can here me fart....lol

A couple of courtesy flushes throughout the process would probably go a long way! :D

Oh I know I do... Hell, I've flushed while pooping so it just goes right down the drain... still really stucks.

You sleevers really are missing out on this "fun"!

Sleeve patients don't tend to have the extremely foul BM's, that is more the province of by-pass patients. malabsorption occurs because food is not digested completely. With less time in the stomach for the acid to break the food down, the intestines can only absorb so much. The rest passes through the bowels partially digested. That's the smell, poop coated food that smells familiar and wrong all at the same time.

Good to know. But we can have issues, apparently.

On my fourth or fifth day post-op, I was alone so treated myself to a toot. Imagine my dismay when my solo was, um, not just musical but liquid as well. Glaring at my undies in the bathroom trash, I scrubbed for what seemed like ten minutes to mop up this THICK BLACK SLUDGE--it reminded me of printer's ink. I was terrified to ever leave the house again, let alone enter a pool or something, but my nurse manager explained that it was all the blood left over from the surgery. Yeesh!

So is this a life long side effect? Or maybe just for the 1st few months. I don't want to be afraid of shitting my pants every time I go out.

OMG! I worry about going out now all of the time. I have had some terrible bouts of diarrhea. It makes me not want to eat before I go anywhere. I’m not exactly sure which foods bother me. I’m 2 weeks post op from sleeve. It’s a fun little guessing game. Thank god for maxi pads! Lol. 💩🤢😯

If you find that you are having excessive gas or gas more frequently - not you personally, any bariatric patient, it could be a sign of eating too fast. I'm not talking about shoveling food in like cadets in boot camp fast, but just quick enough to introduce pockets of air into the digestive track. If possible, walk right after eating. You could just burp a lot of it out.

Thank you for this. I’ve slowed down and the uncontrollable gas has stopped

The truth is no ill wind... it's just the truth! Sulfur can't change the way it smells, but it'll never leave your nose wanting LOL

From my understanding... it's lifelong due to the changes in the intestinal tract. But you should be able to figure out which foods end up causing the flood gates to burst.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
