I had my surgery on June 7th and I just feel great. Everything is been cool for me, a little bit of discomfort, on my stomach (which is normal) butt the only thing that’s been killing me since Saturday night is that I’ve been having coughing episodes, and I feel terrible and been trying to not cough because of the pain that I feel on my lower stomach

Any advise would be great for me 🙏🏻😢

PS sorry for my English 🤷🏻‍♀️

Do you hold a pillow to your stomach or wrap your arms around it when you cough? If not, I recommend it as it will help with the pain and also to not pop stitches.

This works so well! For the first few days I used a pillow, as the healing progressed I could just press the palm of my hand on my large incision site to hold everything still for a cough. Coughing is a good thing, so let them out!

@patriciaguirre22 I also put a few short bandaids across the incisions perpendicular to the incision line to help "hold everything together" for the few 2 or 3 weeks. Not enough to completely cover the incisions, but enough to reduce the downward (pulling apart) forces.

I had a similar issue with coughing. I am so glad that I bought the elastic belly support band which I have used when I flew on the plane, when I am driving and when I go out. It helps stabilize and support your belly and minimizes pain with movement, coughing, any little jerks or bumps. You should look into buying one. I got mine off of Amazon prime. If you are interested I could private message you the link from amazon.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
