I’m not gonna recommend you do this, but I failed at the pre-op diet HARD. I managed to lose ten pounds but that’s because I ate like a king for the two months prior to that, so my surgeon’s office thought I lost zero pounds. And they were able to do the surgery, and it was a roaring success. So don’t sweat it!

That makes me feel much better!!!!

Look, the surgery is harder for the surgeon if your liver is very enlarged, but it’s pretty rare that they aren’t able to do it.

That said, I wanted to minimize any chance of being under anesthesia for longer so I was pretty strict with my diet. I just drank Protein Shakes. Easy. No chance to think and screw up.

good luck!

Makes sense. I gagged every time I made a shake. I finally found a clear drink. So far so good but I’m not getting enough in

I wasn't perfect on pre-op, I ate some tuna twice because I was a basket case. Just hang in there. Napping and long walks helped a little. You can get through this stage.

I’m studying for the bar exam and I take my adderall which keeps me up ahhh

I cheated a few times on the Pre-Surgery diet. Once I had a really low BG reading and so I had a party size butterfinger (the best candy bar I've ever had in my life). I also snuck some chicken in on mother's day and a small plate of food a few days later. It's not recommended but it's also not the end of the world. Just try to do the right thing most of the time and the liver is probably going to be small enough to do the procedure. That being said, I was warned that a patient of my doctor's really liked cream of chicken Soup. So much so, that when it came time to do her procedure her liver was too big and they had to stop her procedure. Like I said, I tried to do the right thing for the most part and I was able to get my sleeve. Just keep your eye on the prize!

Just found out what my 2 week liver shrink consists of and it's 2 meals 1 shake per, 1 reg meal but weighed to a specific portion size and 2 snack per day if needed. Think I had a pretty big grin when my NUT told me. Post is 1 week clear liquid......

I’m on day 4 of my pre-op diet:
One IMPACT shake (from the surgeon’s office) , 2 Premier Protein shakes (chocolate is my favorite), plus 1 Lean Cuisine meal (must have at least 20 grams of protein) plus 72 ounces of Water. (For me, the water is the most difficult part.)

You can do it, involve trusted people to support you, make yourself and health a priority. Surgery only does it’s part, you do have the strength to do your part. Hang in there!

In the same vein—my surgeon did 3 surgeries on the day he did mine; he told me that I was the only one who seemed to have been compliant for my preop diet. One of his patients had visible fajita tacos still in her stomach, and the other had evidence of a large meal the night before. It’s really hard but I watched a lot of my 600lb life and ate my weight in sugar free Jello and broth. You have time to recover from this and 6 days of “doing it right” can and will make a difference. I’m 7 days post op and on a bachelorette trip about to dance the night away again like I did last night. You can do it I PROMISE.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
