help with regain

Recommended Posts

Having problems with regain several years post-op. Lost 72lb. Was 160 at lowest point but have gained 20 over past 2 years regardless of exercise, adequate Protein intake, Water consumption, following the program!! Very frustrated and clothing too tight (refuse to get bigger size from what I was wearing).....What can I do to lose this or at least STOP the gain!!!

Gains are frustrating!

Some options to think about.

Make an appointment with your surgeons team. Great time for a check up. (blood labs and all) ask it there is a medical reason for not having weight loss.

Your dietician. They should help you dial in your diet where your body starts losing weight again.(its different for each of us years out)

My personal experience with weight gain years out:

My restriction is not the same. it's a normal experience for my type of surgery. My weight starting going up and it was harder and slow to lose

I had to weigh and log food again. I found what calories and Protein goal puts me back into weight loss mode. Painfully slow.... at best 2 pounds a month..But I will take it.

I'm back up again..uggg mine was indulgence of food..Takes nothing for me to gain now...I know I can get it back to where I'm comfortable. it's just at a snail's pace.

Possible? Yeah...

Common or likely? No. It’s usually not being aware and creep of choices or portions.

NOT saying this is true of the OP, just what’s more typical.

Tracking and weighing or measuring will usually help ya find the culprit. Eyeballing portions can be accurate when we’ve been weighing but when we haven’t it’s not as accurate.

Oh also it takes fewer and fewer calories to maintain as we loss. A 150lb body may maintain at 1200 calories while a 200lb body loses. So constant course correction is necessary

Ok because it sounds like even on plan there is just regain , so I was puzzled
Is that not really likely?
Can someone please have a real open discussion about regain and prevention. Pretty please ?

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
