Laurend- I asked my friend and she said that they actually insist that people shave the area the day before otherwise the hair just gets in the way. She asked me to ask you if you have polycystic ovaries?

NIna xx

Yep, that's me! It's so bad that I have to shave daily, or else I have a 5 o'clock shadow, lol!

She thought it might be, damn shes good!! She said to tell you that it will work, but it may take slightly more sessions than usual as the hair tends to be more resistant, but not to worry as she has seen some amazing results, she reiterated that they PREFER the area to be shaved.

Completely off topic , but she also said that the weight loss will help hugely with the symptoms too, the more weight off the fewer the symptoms apparently - though I am sure that you already know that!

That's wonderful! Thanks, Nina! Sorry I'm replying to this a few days after the fact. I was away from internet for a couple of days and LBT was down yesterday when I got back. Thanks for going to the trouble of asking your friend for me!

My old Dermatologist told me not to even bother with Vaniqa because it's so expensive and almost never covered by insurance. She did see some success with it but it was very limited.

I did the laser on my neck/chin and upper lip about 4 years ago - I had 8 treatments and it was about $1200 I think. At that time, I was just starting to understand PCOS and in hindsight should not have wasted all that money.

The hair did have to be shaved. It was NOT painful. Every once in awhile I felt a zap (that snapped rubber band feeling) but it was not a constant. The biggest pain in the ass was that my face would be read and blotchy for about 24 hours after!!

It worked REALLY well but because of my PCOS and continuing to gain weight, here I am 4 years later and pretty much back to where I started, if not worse.

My upper lip is still in good shape but I think that's because that was just a little dark hair that was natural - not related to my PCOS.

I'm getting ready to start the process again now that I am losing weight and optimistic that with the band I will be able to keep it off and get my PCOS under control.

Good luck ladies!

This thread inspired me.

I had my first session today. It wasn't pleasant. A little more uncomfortable than I remembered. But quick!

1 down ...

For facial hair removal I get threading done. I had electrolysis years ago on my brows, it was really expensive and eventually the hair grew back. The threading is not permanent, but then again it only costs 4 bucks for brows, or 8 bucks for the entire face, including neck and upper lip. The nice thing about is I dont get any redness (unlike waxing) and threading is very very quick.

I would love to get laser on my legs and pits, but I used my line of credit to pay for the band, so money is kinda in short supply at the mo

Okay, so I made the appointment for my first laser session for Monday at 2:00. At $750 for 5 sessions, it's a bit more expensive than I thought, but they've got a buy one area, get one area free deal going on now.

I LOVE the results from threading, but can't find an area around here that does it.

Laurend, what does the $750 cover? Is an area "eyebrows" or "eyebrow"? Do make sure to post about how it feels. I already told hubby he's probably buying me this. :P

Well, one area that I got was my neck. I might get my jawline done for free, but I'm not sure if I'll get that done or another area. They do both underarms as one area, so I would guess that it would be the same for other spots like that, as well.

I'll definitely post about it. The lady offered me a tube of desensitizer (said that some people find it more painful than others), but at $30+ for the tube, I decided to wait and see how painful it was.

Laurend,

I can really relate to you. I have PCOS too and I have to shave my neck and chin area everyday (basically all the same places men have to shave) and it is sooo embarassing. I also have very dark hair and pale skin. I am sooo tired of the hair. And I'm not talking about just a little stubble either, if I couldn't shave, I would not be able to leave home. Please let me know how it works, because I want to have this done so bad. Good luck on Monday and I hope it's not painful.

Yeah, if I don't shave, I get super paranoid about it. My chin/neck/jawline hair grows super fast. I wish the hair on my head grew that fast, actually! I think it grows faster than my brother's beard, to be honest. He can go a day or two between shaves and only be a little stubbly. I can't.

Same with my husband, he can go without shaving longer than me. I shave it in the morning and sometimes (if we have evening plans) I have to shave it again. It is sooo irritating. Even though it's more expensive, I have found that the intuition razor (sensitive skin refills) work the best for me. It leaves my skin less irritated. I did "Nair" for a while but with my sensitive skin, the chemicals started burning my skin.

Nair is NASTY. My skin is sensitive enough that if I left it on long enough to do anything, it always burned me. I found one depillatory that worked without burning, but I can't find it anymore. I just use the Daisy 3 razors now. The fancier women's razors never work on me, for some reason. I think my hair is too coarse. And the good men's razors are usually too stiff and I cut myself.

To be honest, what I really hate is the ingrown hairs. Those suck.

Yes, they do suck. LOL. If the laser hair removal works good for you, I will probably start saving up and have it done. I would love to get pretty much my whole body done. LOL.

Congrats Lauren!!! :clap2: I didn't buy the pain stuff either. I had some tylenol3 and took one of those the first time. After that I didn't take anything. They will give you some stress balls if you want them. I can't wait to hear how it works for you.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
