Halloween candy EVERYWHERE!

Recommended Posts

I despise halloween.

I just went and bought a bag of candy and wanted a piece SO bad... I decided I would not do that to myself, and had a South Beach Protein bar instead. Not exactly a great substitution for a Reece's Peanut Butter Cup, but I feel better about myself, anyway, and now I won't have the blood sugar high and then the crash afterwards.

After we turn off the porch light, I'm putting the whole damn bag of candy in my DH's truck, and he can take it to HIS work and THEY can pig out on leftover halloween candy. I don't want it anywhere near me, I'm not strong enough to say no.:faint:

Next time you have a craving for chocolate Peanut Butter stuff, try whey Gourmet chocolate Peanut Butter Protein mix. It actually tastes a little like Reece's cups. Well, to me anyway! :(

I wasn't craving it 'till I had the bag in one hand and the receipt in the other, knowing full well that if I so chose, I could open the bag and eat to my heart's content.... And I'm at work, so my "better" choices were limited...

For the past few years I have given out bottles of Water. The first time it was because I didn't expect kids at my apt bldg. All I had was a case of half pint bottles of water so I gave them each a bottle. They loved it. (times sure have changed since I was a kid). Now I go to costco and get several cases to give out. This year they were a big hit again with the kids and their parents. I don't have left over candy around and I feel good about what I gave out.

This is why I like the band.

I wanted some Halloween candy, so I had it. I'm not of the "can never eat this again" school. I'm of the "anything in moderation is OK, and my band is here to moderate" camp.

Only now, two of the miniature Reese's filled me up.

Before, I would've had np problem eating the entire Halloween sized bag, and then some.

I bought 2 bags of stuff I don't like (Life saver stuff and tootsie roll stuff).. and DH bought 1 bag of m&m mini bags (which 2 are 1 serving, interestingly enough). We had 3 little bags of M&M's left over, he took 2.. and I had one. Was good, and it lasted a little while.. wasn't eating a handful at once, just one at a time ;)

And now we just have tootsie roll stuff left over.. and not a lot of it, so I'm going to throw it away.

We bought candy to give out because I just moved into a building that has kids in it. We didn't get ONE SINGLE trick or treater. I was so annoyed! So, now I have to get rid of the candy some how. I have been eating some, but working at taking Wheetsin's stance, and not going overboard.

I didn't buy candy to pass out because I didn't want to deal with trick or treaters (and partly because I didn't want chocolate goodies in my house, too tempting!) ... but then my annoying MIL showed up with bags full of candy so we ended up having to deal with the little beggers anyway :) ... after all was said and done (and there was candy left!) I realized I had enough calories to spare and I allowed myself 1 Reese's PBC and 1 "fun size" pack of PB M&M's ... although it was a small amount compared to what I would have eaten before, I was satisfied (especially after not having any chocolate for months!) ... I stayed under my calorie limit for the day and the next morning the scale still went down. I agree with Wheetsin, anything in moderation is OK ;)

I hate admitting this, but this is the place to do it, I guess. I CANNOT do chocolate in moderation. Once I start, I find it exceedingly difficult to stop myself, until it's gone or until I feel like total crap. I did end up giving in to temptation, and I ate 6 Reese's PBC's, and 2 mini bags of Reese's Pieces.

*sighs* I just can't be around the stuff. I find that I do just fine if I don't have it around.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
