Hello all. I can't remember all I have read except about the skechers (sp). I am like Beth (?) I don't know the difference. I just know I am a cheepskate. I can't spend that kind of money on a pair of shoes. When my kids wanted name brand, they worked and paid 1/2 on them. I just can't see paying over $30. or $40. for a pair of shoes. But I am also one that won't spend over $20. on a pair of pants. But I will spend more on my Bras. Don't get me started on purses. I think they are so over priced it isn't funny! Dooney and Burke or whatever it is called is highway robbery! $ 400.00 for a flippin ugly purse. If I was forced to choose to spend a small fortune and the choise was a purse or shoes it would be shoes. They serve a good purpose, purses are a assesary.(sp) $20. for a purse is reasonable IMHO. But my favorite purses I have bought for change or a couple of bucks from thrift stores and yard sales. But like I said I am cheep!:)

Have a good night all

I am at a stage where clothes are cheap. I mean, I'm going through the sizes quickly (though not SO quickly lately...). Shoes, I typically never spend more than about $40 to $50 for a pair of tennis shoes, which I wear until they die. If I can get these for $80, it stings a bit, but doesn't hurt painfully. Shoes you can wear no matter what size you are.

Dooney and Bourke? Don't even get me started. Ugly is right (sorry if anybody here likes or has them). The last purse I bought I paid $30 at Dress barn and really love it.

Thrift stores are great and I go whenever I can. I love having nice stuff, but I love even more being able to say, "OMG, do you know how CHEAP I got this for? Like five bucks!" Yeah, I'm one of those.

It's amazing what comes out of my mouth unintentionally.

I am however shocked at your restraint tonight - are you feeling ok?

Sometimes I just like to point things out and let it hang in the air. :)

That, and I was watching "Obsessed" and didn't want to take my attention away to go into a Plain-style drool fest.

When I go into a store I am automatically drawn to the marked down racks! I got my DGS for his b-day last week a pair of pajama pants (the hulk) for .50. he loved them and isn't any wiser for it. I was actually at the check out and looked up and someone had hung them on the register behind me! I asked the cashier if I was reading the price right and she said yes. I love those type bargains!:)

Omg, you and me both. I know some people are all about the price -- how much they paid for something. I'm all about getting something for next to nothing, and I don't care who I crow to about it. :)

"Omg, this thing was originally a thousand bucks and I got it for 50 cents!!!" lol

I'm not sure. My doc talked a lot about the discomfort. He told us to wait a year before drinking one. I figure he throws out that date because after a year of not having one, you have broken that habit. Instead, I have picked up other habits to take its place.

I would kill for a rootbeer! My all time fav soda! Tomorrow is my one year! I did have some rootbeer ice cream. I actually just smell the rootbeer when the kids have some in the house - that usually gets it for me.

Maybe I will bust out and have a couple of sips!?!:)

The best part of shopping is the hunt for the bargain!

I went to Macy's and tried on a pair of jeans on the sale rack and they were having one of those 1/2 off the 1/2 off sales. I only shop the sales racks! Well, long story short Tommy Jeans for $10 a pair. The sales gal says, "wait, I think we have more of these in the back!". So I end up with 2 pair for 20 bucks - SCORE!

New purse - so cute and nobody else has one like it - $3 at the thrift store - found it in the athletic section! Too cute!

I could go on, but I won't bore you!

I so get it, but I'm weird that I don't like the hunt. I'm more the type that likes shooting fish in a barrel.

In other words, I like falling into a deal. I don't like spending endless hours at racks or garage sale-type places hunting and pecking for that perfect thing. I love falling into a deal, if that makes sense.

I miss antiquing. I used to go with my mom to an area called the Heights just outside Houston and got some fantastic deals.

I have antiques in my home that I would be hard-pressed to part with, but HERE, I could make a mint off of.

I have two separate Duncan Phyfe dining sets that I paid between $350 and $550 for, with leafs and six chairs, but HERE I can't touch one under about $1800. I also have a couple of wonderful armoires with mirrored doors. I think I paid in the mid-$200s for each, and again, probably couldn't buy HERE for under $1800. I have a GORGEOUS buffet upstairs that I use for our master dresser, and I waited for that bugger to go on sale for well over a year. Got it (after it went on sale AND then I asked for and got an additional 10% off) for about $400... after it had originally been on sale for closer to $900 or so.

THOSE are the bargains I miss. I couldn't fit another antique or other piece of furniture in this house if I tried. Went from over 3300 sf in Houston to about 2200 sf here.

I need to do something to get me looking good by february.

Just thought I would mention that he obviously likes you now. Just saying...

Not even sure if it's your imagination. Usually they use different names for different things they do. When you call them names like Optimize, Metabolize, and Sport, I would automatically assume they are different in what they do, not just how they look. If all that's different is the look, that's a strange way to market them, with names like that.

It would be strange, but of course, not unheard of.

I was SO gonna run with this! :w00t:

I can't believe that you didn't!:)

I am however shocked at your restraint tonight - are you feeling ok?

I was wondering the same thing?:huh2:

I can NEVER find the good sales. I can go to the same store with someone and they find the $300 purse for $5 while I find the same $300 purse for $300.:huh2:

Sometimes I just like to point things out and let it hang in the air.

Happy Bandiversary!

BTW, drunk/buzzed posting alerts. In case I say something EXTRA stoopid. :w00t:

Isn't it fun though?

Okay, guess it's time for bed. Nytol! :smile2:

Morning all!

you were busy posting last evening - on topics from popsicles to antiques and shoes. Now where else are you going to have such animated discussions on such a breadth of topics?

Beth your antiques sound beautiful and such bargains! I have very few antiques - and most of them are small items. I can relate to small houses though - I too downsized ALOT and what I notice most is the decreased wall space. I have no more walls on which to hang stuff - and this disturbs me the most. I have pictures not hung/propped anywhere as I don't have the room. Even behind doors and above doorways I have artwork.

Time to get moving...even though I don't want to. I don't know what has come over me, but I am so very sluggish...I can barely get out of my own way these days! BAH!

Have a good day all.

Morning Slim.

WOW - how observant you are to catch Lulu's missing avatar.

For the rest of you, regarding Slim's multi-post about 3 posts back - I echo it (too lazy to recap it).

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
