If bless your heart is an insult (my mind is still reeling over that) then is 'Bless you' also an insult? I know that I use that phrase a lot, in fact have probably written it on LBT...I SWEAR it was NEVER an insult. Bless you is said (in my area) as a thanks - someone brings you a coffee unexpectedly, or does you a favor unsolicited. The response is either 'Thank you. I appreciate it' or 'Bless you'.

What's the difference between south and (as Sick used it) deep south? Why isn't Texas southern? Man oh man, I have a lot of geography to brush up on obviously.

"Bless you" is a sweet, honest phrase to me used like "oh thank goodness." "Bless your heart" is much different (to me).

Temp gauge on SUV this morning read -30 @ 0400. That is not WC, it is air temp. Why do people live up here? And there are people who live farther north than I.

Cera - I was so ready to tell you how much I loved you for using "farther" as not many do and then you had to add the "everywhere" information. Wow, I'm not sure where to go w/ that!!! Ha.

Personal responsibility....a quaint concept that is dying a slow 'some-one-else-is-to-blame' death...

Amen, Tap....as is common sense!!!

Now back to discussing Ceradad's body.....

Must we? :(

If you find out what the justification was or what he was charged with, pls let us know. I'd like to hear it b/c that seems crazy to me. (Tho I'm not thrilled that he wasted 10 min of gas!!)

OK re: south.....to me (i.e. this is not the gospel for anyone else but me), "the south" that has the stereotypes for all things southern (both negative and positive) is more southeast. (KY, TN, MS, AL, GA, NC, SC, n. FLA, LA-i guess) It's more humid in the southeast whereas I think of Texas being drier like NM and AZ or "southwest". Now do native Texans speak slower like we do? Sure! I don't think of Texas having as negative a stereotype but they may. To me, Texas is more Marlboro man, rugged country to me! ;) My 2 cents.

  1. Not sure how "bless your heart" is an insult, but I will believe you that it is considered so.;)
  2. I try with proper grammar. As for the "everywhere" comment, you can take it wherever you like.
  3. Yes, you can continue to discuss my body. It is a beautiful thing to behold.
  4. Not saying I necessarily agree with the law, just telling the justification used behind it.
  5. To me, anything south of Iowa is the south. If you are complaining that 60 is cold, you are in the south.

SnT, yep.

tap, crazy story and I agree completely - but a little common sense could have been applied right there.

To all those going through this crazy freeze... um, -48° is that normal for you guys? That sounds Antarctic to me. I didn't have a clue temps got like that here in the US (mainland).

pjtp - port pain.

i'm not going to start a thread - but if anyone gets port pain, get it looked at. was in the hospital all morning for my hernia, and i had a slight infection by my port site. my surgeon says left untreated can lead to erosion - caught well in time.

i go back in 2 wks to double check & make sure it's cleared up - just thought i'd give an FYI to my posting pals!!

This is the coldest in 5 yrs here in MN. From about mid Dec until mid Feb., we tend to go below 0. Just not this far below.

But, trust me, it gets darn cold in the plains and Great Lakes areas.;)

Thanks for the heads up lulu. Hope it gets better. Hernia is bad enough by itself from what I hear.

PJTP that it's cold here in CT - no not cold like where Ceradad lives, but then, I couldn't take that!

I lived in Detroit most of my life, and it gets cold there, but not THAT cold. CT is a walk in the park next to that!

Got my first fill - doing well. Down the nearly 5 pounds I gained when feeding my face was all I could think about and now I'm back under 240 and very happy.

Missed y'all - had 7 pages to read through when I checked in today!:(

Have a terrific night all - and for those of us in the snow: keep it safe and on the road!;)

Good to hear they caught the infeciton early.

I appreciate the heads up on the port pain issue, but being slightly paranoid and obsessive, I'm probably going to think every time I have a bit of a twinge that I have an infection. I'm telling myself right now to take deep breaths and chill out....

Wow good catch Lulu. Hope you're feeling better soon and that it's all gone within the 2 weeks.

Someone I work with is from MN and was talking about how he lived there all his life and it's never been that cold there while growing up.

i'm always paranoid about this band - and blamed hard ab routines by my trainer for a bit. it's easy to "avoid" or come here and find great medical advise......:( i might be a fun poster as these happy pills have me all warm & toasty. if my spelling sux sorry.!.;)

Why isn't Texas southern?

Because it's western. It is south geographically since it's at the bottom of the country, but it's also in the Western part of the country and culturally it has more in common with Wyoming than with Georgia.

I am not saying it's right but I do know where a child got in a running truck took it out of gear and it ran over a 1 year old and killed her.

In fact, leaving a car running while unattended is dangerous. It's not criminal, but it's still worth a ticket in my book. It's on the same order as speeding, not wearing a bike helmet or not buckling your seat belt.

  1. Not sure how "bless your heart" is an insult, but I will believe you that it is considered so.;)

It's because it's code. The whole idea is that you aren't supopsed to realize you've been insulted.

Urban Dictionary: bless your heart

Vikar's Rant: Dirty Jokes - Bless Your Heart

PJTP: All this cold talk reminds me that in 21 days I am going to be in Kauai!

Flame on!

I hate you! Not really, but Kauai is my favorite of the Hawaiian Islands.

luluc-I'm glad they caught your infection in time. I hope you feel better soon.

Bless your heart-is in an insult in my neck of the woods.

Ceradad-I will not complain (on here) about it being 23 degrees right now. You have me beat.

Did anyone else notice that granny basically did a drive-by on both this thread and her own? I'm just saying...

Slim - what does that say about your neck of the woods? ;)

Brandy - Did your Mom and Grandma think you were a tad bid on the slow side? he he

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
