@sleevedlove There is no set amount of weight that any individual will lose. You'll read stories from one extreme to the other here, some shed quite a bit of weight but others may only shed a few pounds. There are too many variables to definitively say what you will lose. The best advise I can give you is follow your teams direction, eat/drink exactly what they ask of you and do your VERY BEST not to cheat. You'll shed the weight and it may be quick or it may take some time just don't be discouraged if the latter is your case. I've read many times "It is a Marathon NOT a Race".

Enjoy the journey. It is a huge step in your life. Best of luck to you

Newbie here. I'm all set for surgery on Aug. 2nd! I'm anxious, but excited to take this step. At times I kinda wish I had taken my endochrinologist's advice and done this 3 years ago, but I wasn't in the right mindset then. I am SO ready now!

Hoping to get it done this summer! I have 2 more pounds to lose and then I can meet with the Case Manager to schedule my surgery. I know she is scheduling one month out from meeting with her, but I'm not sure how soon/late I will get an appointment with her. I'm so excited and scared at the same time.

Things are slowly and steadily moving ahead for me after all this time. Planning to start my prediet August 1st, OSU. gave me a choice 2, 3 or 4 weeks.

hey guys! long time no talk, i started my preop diet last wednesday (7/18) and so far have lost 6lbs! my surgery is this wednesday (7/25) and i’m just starting to get a little nervous 😬 more so for the actual surgery part and being in the hospital than after, which i guess is good! i’m just worried i won’t have lost enough weight, miraculously got pregnant, or didn’t stop smoking soon enough, etc. other than that i am so excited and ready to begin my journey!!

Update from me: called my insurance and surgeons office had not yet submitted anything for precert as of today. I’m frustrated but spoke with dr office who said they’re submitting all tomorrow. Looks like August will be soonest I can possibly have surgery. This is kinda messing with my head and my carb temptation is increasing! I have lost 48lbs as of today and want to lose as much as possible before surgery but I find this unknown date thing kinda discouraging.

Did cheat slightly... had my leftover from yesterday sauteed spinach with garlic and lemon Sitting here right now thinking i want something but I didnt make my sugar free Jello yet!!!!.

Yeah, it is discouraging. But... I was told by my primary doctor's office that actually they do not submit until about a week or so before your scheduled date, typically around the time of pre-testing. So I am still hopeful and will check back next Tuesday (as my pre-op is monday). Also, you can call your insurance and ask for an expedited review. 48 hours.

Just make sure you’re vaping 0 nic e-juice. I did some research on this when I was pre-op and I would test negative on a home test for nicotine if I abstained for 8 days. There’s a chance your surgeon may use a more sensitive test, so tack on a few days to that abstain amount.

Also- you can get 10 home cotinine (the metabolite of nicotine) tests on Amazon for like 7 bucks. I was where you are just a month ago!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
