So, I am scheduled for 8/6/18 with NYU Dr. Schwack. I start the 2 week liquid diet 7/23/18 (and am also off work FMLA!!!!!). I do not know if it has been submitted to insurance yet. The surgical coordinator is hard to reach so I am getting super anxious, and no one is telling me anything.

All of a sudden I am scheduled for pre-op testing.... but no one is telling me if it is submitted to my insurance yet!

I am getting more and more anxious as time goes on, inching to 7/23, then 8/6...

From, feeling like I want to cry, Reyna

@Rick Z You can click on someones response and click the quote button that pops up. Or you can use the @ sign like I did with your name. The user will get a notification that someone quoted them or called them out.

When I click "Quote" on someones response, I get nothing that pops up. What am I missing?

Congratulations! My RNY is also on 8/6/18. Don't get too discouraged. You can always call your insurance company and simply ask them if you are approved. After all, it's your insurance. I called my insurance company frequently to check up on my doctors office. Good thing I did too, because their insurance person drug her feet and followed up on virtually nothing. I'm sure it is going to be fine.

I figured it out. Not intuitive at all, but I think I've got it now.

Hey ladies - I’ve been absent a few days and way behind. My dad’s health has deteriorated and he’s been put in hospice. Just spending all the time I can with him and supporting my mom.

I’ll try and check in as I can.

I hope that you and your father can both be as comfortable as possible. With a sick parent, it can be so hard to find the time and energy to take care of yourself. But be grateful for this time with him. I finally started the ball rolling on my WLS after my mother passed from ALS. I am still glad I had the time with her at the end even though I put my own life on hold temporarily.

It’s obvious you are a strong person. You’ll pull through this. [emoji177]

Best of luck to you @insta_adventurer Don't let your nerves get the best of you. It will be the fine. There will be pain after so don't wait to ask for pain meds. I waited because I was sleeping/out of it after and then suddenly it hit me and I wanted to strangle the nurse for taking 1 minute and 30 seconds to get to me and get them into my IV. (Not sure how long it took, but I swear it was at least 10 minutes). Take your time there is no need to rush the walking. I waited until the day after surgery late in the day to walk the halls. I did walk from the bed to the rest room but that was hard enough the 1st few hours.

GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!

Day 1 on liquid diet. I want to give up and have really been thinking if I should do this surgery. My head is pounding and I’m very irritable. Ugh...just having a tough time.

I’m sorry to hear you’re having a tough day. Is your liver shrink diet all liquids?

@monies Don't give up. The 1st few days are tough on everyone. It does get easier. NOT EASY but for sure easier. Drink that Water in between "meals" even if it winds up being more than 64ozs. Are you doing Protein Shakes? If so add water to those as well so they are bigger, and they will fill your belly more than just the 8oz. Avoid any food shows or commercials. I know it's damn near impossible but try. Start your own thread and vent to all of us. There are a ton more people here that have better advice than I could give. Let us help you through. The support does wonders.

Keep your head up and GOOD LUCK!!!!

Paperwork is officially submitted for insurance approval. Fingers crossed and if anyone has any extra patience to get me through the waiting, send it my way!

I had my surgery (bypass) a day after yours. I’m sure that doesn’t count but I’m doing pretty good 😊 How are you?

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
