I'm so excited! I received my approval today and completed my pre-admissions. My surgery is scheduled for April 25 at 8:00 am. I'm on day four of my liquid diet and so far, I've had no headaches, hunger pains nor have I been "hangry"!!!

YAYYYYYYY!!!!! Hi Surgery Buddy. My surgery is the same day and I am also on day 4 of my clear pre op liquid diet. It's not too bad but I think it is because I am meeting 60 grams of Protein though my Premier Protein shakes (30 grams protein each) and I am taking all of my vitamins/calcium vits as well. I am also drinking 64 oz or more and I am loving Powerade Zero right now. I've only had my two shakes and PowerAde Zero and a cup of Decaf coffee today and I'm not hungry at all. Head hunger is there but I love practicing avoiding that before surgery. My husband doesn't eat around me so he's helping me through it as well. So glad to see someone else on the same journey!!!! Are you doing the sleeve or bypass?

Absolutely, I'm a ball of nerves. To get my mind off of the surgery waiting I've started a little game of seeing how many pounds I can lose before the surgery. This helps me not be so anxious. My mother always used to tell me to never wish time away and that every day should be enjoyed. So I am trying to not wish time to fly so the game to see how much weight I can lose counteracts my anxiousness for the surgery to come. I'm 218 right now and have a goal to be 200 or below by the 25th. This way I can look forward to having 11 days to try to drop 18 lbs. It might not happen but at least in the meantime it distracts me.

I'm having the sleeve as well. My Iron already runs low so I really didn't like all the extreme deficiencies that the bypass caused. I know the sleeve has some but I believe that the Vitamins I can take and the Protein I can ingest will counteract most of it.

How are you doing so far? :D

And while you 2 are getting your renovation surgery, I'll be having my mind probed by Dr Kramer, the psychologist at OSU. Wish I could trade places, at least you 2 know what your outcome will be. I'll get through it cause I have to, but I don't have to relish the idea, do I? He is undoubtedly not the ogre I imagine in my mind, May even be a very nice guy. I'm just as wary as a wild animal🐻, can I trust people? I wish I had a sincerity suit to wear.😞

I'm anxious. Trying to find some clear Protein and trying to get some other things completed. It seems like this time has flown by and now its upon me. A friend of mine gave me a wonderful care package...she had surgery last year. She has been my biggest cheerleader. I pray everything works out for us. Give me a minute and I'll post a picture of my care package. She really thought of everything!

Frustr8 good luck, just remember learn as much about your surgery as possible before speaking with them. They really just want to know if you are aware that it is a lifestyle change and that you need to incorporate diet and exercise and it's not a quick fix. They also want to make sure you know what your surgery and how it works, the positives and the negatives of it, etc.

browneyez42 That looks amazing. We are both doing almost the same exact diet!!!! We really are surgery twins! I hate magnesium citrate but am still going to do the two bottles day before surgery. I love Premier Protein and swear by it. It gets tiresome but I cannot drink Protein Powder I cannot stand the grittiness to it. The premier gives 30 g of Protein a bottle so two meets your daily protein intake and doubles as 22 oz of Fluid intake as well.

if you can't find clear Protein liquids in your town you might consider ordering f4om the Bariatric Pal Store. Target, Walmart, Meijer in Ohio and Michigan, GNC, Sam's Club, costco . I know Rite Aid pharmacy you can sometimes find single bottles, that way you can try them. until you find something that works for you without being stuck with tastes you hate and a major outlay of money.

Thanks. I was thinking of ordering from Walmart. You're awesome!

That’s a great care package! What a great friend! I would add biotine to that for dry mouth after surgery if you’re going out for other things!

Best of luck- it’s an amazing journey!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
