4 days post op sleeve — gas pain is horrible!

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved this past Monday 4/9. Today is the first day that I’ve been able to tolerate keeping liquids down (yes, even water). I was just discharged last night because my doc wanted me on IV fluids until I could keep liquids down. My incisions look good, I have minimal pain in my stomach but these gas pains OMG! Anyone have any tips on how to relieve it? I’ve been walking & infant Gas-x to no relief.

Gas-X has adult strength chewables that might help. Sorry you're feeling so bad, hope you improve soon!

Laying on your left side might help. Hope it passes soon!

I'm on day 3 I've had no problem passing gas but when it comes to burping ing it hurts so bad! And i have a terrible back ache but i think that has a long to do with the fact I'm sleeping in my recliner. I feel like i did a million crunches. Just sipping and walking all day lol

Me too Star2017. I had surgery Monday, feel alot of chest discomfort and was just released home today from the hospital. I am struggling to drink an entire Protein Drink over 8 hours. I keep putting warm one back in fridge to drink a colder one. Lots of pain and the scale says Im up 3 lbs! I think thats due to the iV so Im not too concerned. I did get a fleeting moment of "what did I do"but I think as i lose and get healthy that will pass.

Oh yes I've had the same thought cross my Mind a few times. I'm hoping tomorrow the chest and back pain ease up a little. I've been keeping an eye on my urine color still light in color just trying not to get dehydrated. I'm looking forward to the puree stage starting the 25th! It'll be a month since I've had real food! I need to put in my stats on my profile once i figured out how to do it lol but pre op diet i was 229 surgery day i was 215 today I'm 213.

I definitely had that “what did I do” feeling days 1 & 2 while I was in the most pain but so many people told me to expect so I didn’t let it get to me. Keep your head up! Wishing you a speedy recovery :)

I figured out the ticker thing. Just go to your picture and name on the top right of the page and click the down

arrow. Then click my tickers and you can create one. Its kind of fun.

As a theatre nurse gas pain is usually passed by 48 hrs. I wonder if the delayed gaspain is due to stomache surgery being involved. When I worked GIT(gastro surgery) nursing we gave patients peppermint Water concentrate.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
