Finally, something to slow me down

Recommended Posts

Hi:

I've found that my biggest issue since being banded is slowing down when I'm eating. I've adjusted to smaller bites, but I still want to shovel them in. I found a one-minute hourglass timer that I now keep next to me when I'm eating. After I have a bite I tip over the timer and wait until all of the sand flows through before I can take another bite. Seems to work for me.

If anyone's interested in trying this, I ordered the timer from Unclesgames.com online and they were only $1.50 each. I ordered five of them because I know that I'll lose a couple and I wanted to have at least one at home, one at work, and one at my Sister's house, and one in my bag for going out to eat.

I hope this idea helps anyone else who has an issue slowing down.

Take care.

Sue

Excellent idea! I have the very same problem. My bites are small but I'm still shoveling it in and then, of course, get very uncomfortable within just a few minutes.

I'm going to try this. Thanks.

Wow, awesome idea.I will give one of these a try. I do ok until I go out with others and they are eating soooo fast and then they end up waiting for me.

Thanks for the great idea! If I'm going to get something stuck, this is how I do it. I can take small bites, chew well, but if I don't wait long enough between bites, my food will accumulate and get stuck. Hope this works well for you. Good luck to us all!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
