I haven't been able to warm up since my surgery. Is that a normal thing? Everything else is great! I am a month out from surgery. Is it my metabolism changing or something? Thanks!

I'm the same way! I wish I had an answer for us.

In short - yes it's pretty common. It's probably just a side effect of anesthesia and all of the hormone changes happening with the rapid weight loss. I was freezing all the time for several months. I'm over a year out and I still get cold often but not nearly as bad as it was right at first. All of that said, if you every are worried you should always call your surgeon or nurse to check in.

Thank you for replying! I just needed to know others have dealt with it.

As long as you aren't running a fever it's pretty normal to feel colder than normal because you are now operating on a pretty big caloric deficit, this is also exacerbated often times by an Iron deficiency post surgery (which is why most of us get prescribed iron supplements).

It’s common. Most if not all of us get colder now. Put another layer on and be sure to keep taking Vitamins

Hormones, metabolism, fat insulation are all factors. make sure your thyroid and Iron level are checked and that you aren’t running a fever... and then get a heating pad/hot water bottle and lots of fleece.... because yup! Always cold!

Almost a month out and I'm feeling it too, but not badly. Mostly stuff like I always go barefoot in my house but for the first time I've actually bought wool socks because my feet get cold now - not all the time, but enough to have bought socks. Everything else is a bit random; for instance I've been comfortable wearing my huge down coat in warmer temperatures than usual, but then again I only wore a fleece in 40 degree weather this morning and ended up getting a little overheated by the time I was in my office. So it seems to happen on and off.

I read somewhere that one of the ways the body dumps excess energy when you're consuming too many calories is by making you warmer overall. Pretty sure I didn't read it in a medical journal so could just be someone's guess, but that would at least explain the cold extremities. Organ repair is probably doing something in redirecting blood flow as well.

I'm still cold too . No insulation anymore.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
