Reviews of protein powders?

Recommended Posts

Is there a place that has reviews of all the many types of Protein powders? I am getting banded on November 7th and would like to have everything on hand.

Thanks!

Rose

I like AchievOne coffee/latte style drinks - four flavors, 9.5 ounces, 20g Protein and NOT THICK!!! You can buy them at bariatriceating dot com. They have totally enabled me to get in my 80-100 g of Protein a day with only 120 calories...I am so tight in the morning that a couple of these in the morning with my usual coffee keeps me satisfied until about 1300 when I can usually eat...

you can also get a taster/sampler pack too so you can decide which you like best

Pre-Op I started testing different Protein powders to find which tasted the best, because I am really finicky when it comes to tastes. Once I tasted the Unjury, I knew my search was over! Their chocolate tastes just as good as a glass of chocolate milk. Their vanilla is good too! www.unjury.com is the site, you can order sample sizes to try them out for yourself before committing to a large container.

I just wanted to add another vote for Unjury. It's the only one I've tried (and I've tried dozens) that didn't make me gag. It's actually tasty!

I did the same thing... ordered samples from unjury.com and bariatriceating.com and tried them all... vanilla Unjury is #1 for me right now (Every morning I mix it w/1/2 carton of vanilla micellar Protein milk & 1/2 scoop of low-carb chai tea mix and am in heaven w/40 g of protein!). My other fav is whey Gourmet choc/pb cup Protein powder... I mix it w/either the vanilla or chocolate micellar milk... yum!

Another recipe that's great for this time of year: 1 Jello sugar-free vanilla pudding (60 calories), mixed w/1 scoop vanilla unjury, 2 packets of splenda, 2 T of canned pumpkin (not pumpkin pie mix) & a dash of cinnamon... mix it all up & it tastes like you're eating the inside of a pumpkin pie! Yum-o!

What is micellar milk?

Sounds interesting, if you could tell more! I just ordered some samples of powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury. I've tried the EAS (not too bad) and the unflavored whey (not bad, but I swear it leaves an after taste) and the nector (made me gag!!) So I'm hoping the Unjury will add some more variety! I'm liking the sound of 40grams of Protein in one drink.......fill me in on the micellar milk!

Thanks

I tried one from nectar that was supposed to be iced tea flavor and it was repulsive. Now I use Whole Foods Brand vanilla soy Protein Powder, but I don't use it much anymore (trying to get Protein from food, not powder). But in the early stages of my banding it was a lifesaver. Mixed it with fruit, yogurt, and orange juice for a delicious smoothie.< /p>

I've not come across any. However, if you search here (or just any WLS or even bodybuilding) site, I'm sure you'll find lots of individual responses/reviews.

I've not tried unjury. My personal favorite powders are the Six Star whey Protein, in chocolate or vanilla. If I cannot get those, I will buy the EAS (whatever kind comes in the big bag at Sam's). I used to go with Unjury, and once I mixed it with milk & other things for flavor it wasn't horrible, but it's not one of my favs anymore. I've tried several of the pre-made drinks as well, and of those my favorite is the EAS AdvantEDGE in strawberry, but you have to drink it REALLY cold or it's not that great. :)

Immediately post-op, and maybe for 8 - 10 months afterwards, I would have them for a meal, and/or a supplement. For a while, a choclate shake with a spoon of Peanut Butter blended in would be my desert. I'm still too tight in the early day for much more than Soup, so if I'm hungry (rare occasion) before evening, I may also have a shake for Breakfast OR lunch - not both, because they fill me up for a long time.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to. And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed. I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
