So I'm a few weeks out and I'm in the purée stage. I remember someone saying along the way saying can't drink 30 mins before or 30 mins after eating. Anyone know why? Is this forever because it's hard!!

It pushes your food through your “new” stomach much faster and puts you at risk for dumping syndrome. I took my chances one time and regret it. Dumping is NO JOKE

I heard that the 30 mins before is bs. Very conflicting because on one hand Water supposedly flows right through our stomachs but on the other hand we are told not to drink it because it will cause us to feel too full or push out the Protein in our stomachs too fast.

Which one is it?

I think maybe the truth lies somewhere in between. I think a few small sips before eating on an empty stomach doesn’t matter. I think drinking a full glass of water and immediately starting to eat is a bad idea. I don’t think water needs 30 minutes to pass through our stomachs but I would give it at least a few minutes.

There are so many opinions and misinformation regarding WLS aftercare. At the end of the day I think we all just need to do what works for us. Oh and eat protein first. :)

Also sleeved 3/12. My doc said 30 min before was a rule of the past but no longer necessary. You def need to wait 30 min after though because the Water will push the good through and will be painful.

I’ve been on purée all wee and my strategy has been to drink as much water before I eat so I’m not thirsty. It’s the worst if you are mildly thirsty going into eating then stuck not being able to drink. So far it’s worked out.

My doctor told me drinking before, during, and right after eating fills your stomach and you can't eat what you need to eat. You will feel uncomfortably full if you drink and eat. I am almost 4 weeks out and find I have no problem drinking before or after I eat. In fact, I drink a bit after eating because I want to feel fuller. I eat my meal and get plenty of Protein (scrambled eggs) but I will end up feeling hungry an hour or so later so I begin drinking soon after eating my eggs. Maybe this isn't good, but I thought your intestines do most of the nutrition absorption, not your stomach. *shrug*

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
