When your hair started falling out...

Recommended Posts

Did you consider chopping it all off? I have medium length hair, which used to be thick hair. But now I’m losing chunks of hair lately :/ I know it won’t last forever..just wonder if having shorter hair might make it a little less distressing for me :P

I didn’t because I wanted to be able to put it up in a ponytail or messy bun. The messy bun especially saved me during the Hair loss phase!

I'm not as esthetician (nor am I even sure that's the right word), but I would think that the shorter the hair the more visible any Patches of thinness would be.

Do you loose hair with all procedures?

My program said it's pretty common to see Hair loss start anywhere from 4-6 months post op, regardless of which procedure you chose. I'm almost 4 months and mine is just beginning. Hopefully it stops soon. The duration of hair loss appears to be different for everyone. Some people don't get hair loss at all, but everyone I've talked to had some degree of it.

Does it get dry as well?

That no one has mentioned! Most of the people I know that've had Hair loss have had thick hair like me, so the number one comment has been just feeling noticeably thinner. I'm sure there are other threads on here regarding hair loss that might talk about that!

I'm losing hair, started a couple weeks ago, not huge amounts but mine is already thin. I hope it doesn't last long. I have medium length hair and got a body wave so it isn't flat to my head for now, and layers - I figure the layers will be less weighing it down.

I have really fine hair to begin with and recently resorted to cutting it very short to cope with the Hair loss. If it doesn't start growing back in pretty soon, I'll have to start wearing wigs or scarves! I'm at 6 months, and in the last few weeks the hair loss has slowed down a lot, but I can't yet say any new stuff is growing in.

Nope doesn’t happen to everyone and happens to a different extent in different people. Keeping your nutrition on point and your Protein up can help, but some is unavoidable for many of us, here’s a good explanation—

Mine did NOT get dry and in fact has been healthier post op than t ever was before, but my nutrition is on point and I get all my protein and Water in, so that may help, I don’t know!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
