March Gastric Bypass Group

Recommended Posts

Had my 3 month Surgical check in on Monday, all my labs were good except my Vitamin D levels. I've been using PatchMD Patches for almost all of my Vitamins, so the fact that all except D were good, is promising for these patches. I have my 3 month nutritional check in tomorrow.

Make sure you are taking your Vitamins every day. Also, check in with your Dr./Nutritionist to see if there are other things you can do. I may be experiencing it, but I have a very thick head of hair, so I haven't noticed too much.

Congratulations on the weight loss!

Awesome job!! I’m 6 days shy the 3 month mark. Down 70 total, around 50 since surgery. I suppose I can release the nasty bathroom selfies to the world. Lolimage-0.00298023223876953.thumb.jpg.f48d3988d97e43a2f17ef5a5425792b5.jpg
Pre-op weight 470
Surgery weight 461 - 3/7/18
Current weight - 371
Goal weight - under 300

Have lost 100 lbs since pre-op appointment. By the numbers that is not too bad for just 4 months but I have so far to go and have already stalled (about 10 days now). I must confess that I have been snacking between meals and have not been able to stop. I'm hoping when I go back to work (teaching school) and am not home most of the day that it will be easier. My Snacks are all healthy but they are additional calories. Have been exercising pretty faithfully but notice that that seems to increase my hunger. Pictures next time - if I can find a pre surgery pic.

Great job JerriB! I am experiencing hair thinning as well - Used to have a thick head of hair, now it's very wispy.

This will pass. I'm trying to increase my Protein intake and I'm going to start taking a prenatal Vitamin as well. The hair will grow back. It's just a trauma reaction to the rapid weight loss and change in diet. I'm considering extensions or a wig if it continues to fall out - but for me it's a small price to pay for recapturing my health :)

We will get through this. I have 46 more pounds I want to lose to reach goal.

From 370 in 2011... to 240 (today) Photos taken around 243-5lbs.

Wish I went with the bypass way back in 2011... wasting 7 years with the band was such a mistake!

Checking in...first time secure enough to post a before and after (I have very few before pics). Down a total of 110 since Jan 1st, down 75 since surgery March 7. Went from a Lane Bryant size 28 to a LB size 14. I’m going to need to find a new store!!!

(And I got the new job where no one knows the former 300+ lb me)...

I now spend all my free time at Taylor Swift concerts because I have nothing but energy! I may even try the pit for a show in September since I can stand for hours and no longer spend extra money flying first class or buying an extra ticket to fit comfortably in a plane seat!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
