First of all, I don't eat fast food. However, at least if I was going to, I could order from the children's menu, because who questions you in a drive-thru? Nobody, that's who. The main reason I hate going to restaurants is that you pay $7.99+ for a few bites. And unless you are sure that it warms up good, it is a COMPLETE waste of money. I could order a cup of Soup or something, but I try really hard to get my Protein in first. Therefore it usually requires some type of meat. I've heard of the "card" that you give to participating restaurants, but I'm leery if it actually works. I wouldn't want to have to go through the hassle of explaining my personal health history to my waitress. Nonetheless, I eat at home 99.9% of the time, which is fine, except we are a social couple. Going out to eat is a thing, even with my skinny friends. Any advice?

Um the card ???? I haven't heard of this.. Can you explain it please thanks

There is this "card" where you can give it to the waitress and order a reduced amount & priced meal. Its only with participating restaurants. I wish I had it to show you, but I never did save it. I'm sure that some of the vets might have it.

I got that card from my surgeon. it explains to restaurants that I've had gastric sleeve and should be allowed to order off the children's or senior menu...and gives them a contact number if they have questions.

They technically don't have to allow this, but nearly everyone will with the card.

I do eat out but not fast food. I go to salad bars that charge by the weight of your plate or even Golden Corral they also allow you to get anything you want & charge by the pound or in our case half a cup. It’s usually around two bucks unless I double the order for a meal later.

I just go wherever I go, get what i want (within the confines of how I eat, of course), and eat what I can eat of it. If it is worth taking to-go, I do, and if not, I just leave it.

I tried the small bites/child's menu thing for a while, but that got old for me really quick...

They don't call it "Golden Corral" for nothing. People go there to graze. For me that is, pun fully intended, a recipe for disaster.

I agree but I’m no longer a grazer. 1/2 a cup every three hours. I could probably eat more though if I feel like puking.

I have the card. My surgeon gave it to me. Most places I tell them I had bariatric surgery and they are very nice and let me order off the kids menu. Other places ask for the card and then are very nice about working with me. I really enjoy eating out with my spouse.

We went to a Mongolian bbq and they don't let you take anything home but with my card they let me take my meal home.

In my case, I would probably both puke and have the drizzles because of the whole bypass dumping syndrome thingy.

Not that I don’t believe you but I would like to see & read this card. Can you post photos of the front & back of it?

Oh wow. WTH!! I never heard of this card. Well, I was allowed to purchase from the kid's menu because I was adorable. Applebees and Red Lobster waiters/waitress would allow me and I would just give them a side tip. I did not care. Then they would ask questions for their family members and I would answer every one of them.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
