the sleeve....because I did not want malabsorption, I did not want to risk ulcers in that unused stomach portion, and overall difference in weight loss percentage between the two is negligible.

And Kathy,is a Cancer survivor, a tough strong willed lady who's an inspiration to all of us who have met her here. If Proud Granny says it, it will be so. Now if she could coach the Syracuse Orangemen to another winning season, guess we can't have everything?

I’m very excited for you! I don’t have a surgery date, but I’m going to see the nutritionist this Thursday. May the Peace and Blessing of God be with you on March 19th and as you continue your new journey. Best Wishes!

Hi,

I began my journey 11/15 when I was 63. My insurance wouldn't cover the surgery. Now I'm 65 and on Medicare with supplemental insurance. I've been approved for the surgery twice, once was last June, 2017 but still couldn't get through insurance. I'm having to begin the whole process again now. Meeting with nutritionist and psychologist on Friday 3/9/18. Re-visit with surgeon 3/21/18. I'm told I'll have the surgery about 5 weeks after that. I know I need to do this because my MANY attempts at weight loss on my own keep failing. I go 2-3 weeks eating good and walking, usually lose 12-20 pounds. At a certain point I'm STARVED though and can never get beyond that point. I am afraid of the surgery because of my age, the anesthesia (we had a dog die from anesthesia) and because I'm not in good overall shape. I do walk but it's getting harder and harder. I don't have much energy (weight/age/health). I'm also afraid not to have the surgery! Knowing my health can and probably will continue on a downward spiral if I don't. I feel I have to do this in order to save and extend my life but also know that the process will be much harder because of my age and post menopausal metabolism. My other big concern is Constipation after the surgery. I have a problem with it already due to having to take an Iron supplement.

So, GSierraGold, I'm sharing my experiences so far and letting you know you aren't alone.

And you also HopefulXOXOXO are not alone. You have. Carrot, Sierra Gold and I , 3 wise, ladies on your side. As you probably have seen from my posts to our mutual friend I am 72, so I am no Spring chicken. Spring chicken pfooey, if they tried to,cook me I'm so old they'd have to stew me and keep skimming the chicken fat off constantly. Some days I feel the size of a small beached whale especially naked being viewed in a 3way mirror. You got to laugh at the irony of life, otherwise you"d be crying constantly. So I bumble along, singing my song, 3 feet wide. Are you aware the bumblebee is aerodynamically impossible? His little wings are too short to hold up his fat body. Nobody told him, so he keeps flying along. I, my friends, am a flippin' Bumblebee. Hang around with us -Hopeful- for the best is yet to be!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
