Just had my EDG done earlier today. I was sedated but still conscious. I gagged the whole time. They had to basically hold me down. It was kinda terrible... but I'm thankful it's over! One step closer to surgery! They said I had a 3cm hernia, which is crazy. I had no idea. So, they'll fix that during surgery too.

I feel nauseous though. Is that normal? :(

Oh now!! This sounds awful! I hear some ppl say you are sedated and others say they put you all the way under. I am sorry you feel nauseous but glad it us over for you.

I have a question if you don't mind...

Do they make all of your appointments for you or do you schedule them yourself? Are they scheduled close together or do they space them out? I am hoping close together. I have to go to a seminar before they allow me to do anything...one hospital allowed me to do it online and then i found out once they called my insurance they were not in my network. They dr was but hospital was not. How weird is that, but that's in two weeks and hopefully all will fly by after that.

hope you feel better!!

I didn't mind my endoscopy.

They used propofol (milk of amnesia).

I do have two vague memories of gagging on the scope and the nurses patting my back and telling me I was doing a good job...but other than that, just a sore throat for a couple of days.

Woke up fast and went to lunch with my hubby. Thai food. Had no issues.

So strange that you weren’t put out! I’ve had two endoscopies since gastric bypass and was put out the whole time. I can’t imagine being awake or even under twilight.

Hey! So my appointments were made basically 2 at a time and at my own pace. My doctor's were very flexible. I think it just depends on who you're working with and what they want you to do! Sorry, I know that isn't much help.

I wish I was completely knocked out. I swear I was trying to feebly escape from them. It was an experience to say the least.

I was out and with no problems. My daughter drove us to TJMaxx and after shopping I drove 75 miles home and went back to work. So sorry you had a bad experience.

I had a similar experience pre-op. I totally gagged and felt my stomach contracting, it was completely brutal. They found Barrett’s Esophagus during the EGD and now I need another one in a year and plan to go to a Dr that will put me under. I can’t go through that again.

I got my surgery date the same day that I was approved by my insurance for surgery.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
