Struggling with pre-op diet

Recommended Posts

I'm on an 800 calorie diet and I'm really struggling to eat that little of calories. It's there any tips and tricks that anyone has used to stay faithful on their pre-op diet?

Just suffer through it a day at a time. Was the worst part for me...worse than surgery.

Sorry I meant to say make sure you are getting at least 60 g of Protein. Protein helps you feel sated so the hunger pangs won't bother you, especially if you go into Keto.

You're right, I need to suffer through it. It will be worth it in the end. I just need to beat this head hunger.

I totally agree that the pre op was the worst part! Ugh!! Surgery and everything has been easier than pre op! Honestly, I slept as much as my schedule would allow. If I was sleeping, I wasn’t eating or thinking about food. I also would drink lots of tea, I did use honey, and chicken broth. How long is your pre op? Mine I was two weeks and I had to use the shakes and Soups they gave me and I didn’t think I’d make it but I did! Just keep reminding yourself it’s to prep your liver-that helped me! Way different mindset than diet mentality but it still sucked. Hang in there! I’ve got your back!! :)

My preop is two weeks and I'm on day three. My first day went very well but my second day did not. But now, on my third day, I'm doing much better!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
