Hi,

I had my surgery last week and I am doing great. The first week is stuff. At first the liquids won't bother you because you are not hungry at all. There must be swelling which acts like a fill I guess and then slowly the swelling must go down and you can tolerate more so just take it slow and stick with the diet they give you post op...I also had a lot of pressue in my upper chest. I later realized it was upper gi gas...Gas X will help with the pressure should you get it..Good Luck

It's humane nature to be nervous before the surgery, but it will be fine. I had mine on 10/22/07 and I am feeling almost like my pre-op self. They had me on liquids for the 1st 48 hours and I am now on the mushy food stage. I blended up some Campbell's Potato Soup and added Water and non fat half and half it was great. Half the bowl filled me up. The pain is very manageable. You will do great.

newlife....put your seatbelt on...you are in for the ride of your life.

surgery was not bad. i know how you feel. up until they wheeled me in i didnt think about the surgery too much. i was busy saying goodbye to my twizzlers, peeps, milky ways LOL.

right before surgery it hit me..and i got really scared. but they gave me a shot...and next i knew i was in bandland.

the recovery wasnt bad. just do everything the doctor tells you. mine was....walk, walk, walk. drink lots of Water and breathe into that breathing "thingey"

you will be fine. and once you start throwing the fat clothes away...you will start to love the surgery.

good luck

Well Howdy from Texas!

I know you're scared. I just got banded about 2 weeks ago. I was in a lot of pain at first, but now I am doing amazing! I love it and it will be worth it my friend.

Now I saw you asked someone else about down time and liquids and all that.

Everybody reacts differntly to pain. Some people were back to work in 3 days. I expereinced a little more pain and it took me about a week to really be able to do things on my own. But either way--I would gladly trade a week of my life to recovery than die years before I should.

The Post-Op diet depends on your doctor. Typically there are 3 stages.

Stage 1-Liquids (This can last for a week or 2..my doctor wants me to do it for 2) The reason for this is so that everything can heal before the pouch fills up with solid like food. Some foods I eat on this are:

-My protien shakes (Adkins brand)

-Applesauce

-Fat Free, sugar free pudding

-Baby food (banana is my favorite)

-Sugar Free Popcicles

-Light Yougurt with no fruit chunks (I suggest the Weight Watcher Brand)

-broth

Stage 2-Mushy foods (This also can last for a week or 2. My doctor also recommended this for 2 weeks for me. I haven't started this phase yet, but I do Thursday). Some foods I can eat are:

-Creamy Soups

-oatmeal or grits

-Mashpotatoes and gravy

-quiche (no crust)

-Soft scrambled eggs

Stage 3-Solids (Not to that stage yet :crying:--but its obvious what it is)

I hope that answered some of your questions! Good luck!!! I know you'll do great!!! :frown:

Feel free to message me if you have any more questions.

--Kareen

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
