How Come We Never Look Like We Think We Look (Especially in Photos)???

  • Popular Post

Ok, so I'm pretty much a vampire. I haven't appeared in a single family photo or event pic in the last 20-30 years or so. I CAN NOT STAND having my piccy taken. (Am I yelling? Cuz I feel like I am?) You know what I'm tawkin' 'bout?

So yesterday I got as dolled up as I ever get, which ahem, means I bathed, brushed my teeth, dried and scrunched up my hair--but I went out on a limb and put on a tiny bit of makeup. I swear to the sweet baby Jesus of the golden fleece diapers, I looked hot. I felt hot. I felt like this! I swear! You shoulda seen me struttin' my hot stuff through the lemon jello section. Mama June, give. it. up. Cuz I was smokin'. You get the picture? In case you don't, I could be this chix sistah from another mistah!

So I screwed up the courage, called myself Felicia, and asked Mr. F. to pop off a few "before photos" so I can use them for comparison. I will suffer through another round the morning of surgery, and then will take them periodically throughout the journey to Oz. (Thank you @James Marusek. I will be eternally grateful for this advice.)

When I looked at them, I almost cried. I thought I'd made such progress. I felt "thin" at my 235lbs. I mean look up at my twin right there. What happened? I almost went outside and ate worms. Not part of my pre-op plan to be sure, but still a powerful source of protein and fiber if you're so inclined...Oh, what I look like... :(

Do any of you feel the same way or have you had the same experiences??? Just so you know...

Ring, ring...

I'm always surprised when I catch a reflection of myself in a window somewhere. OK, not surprised...horrified, lol. I checked the mirror at home before I left the house. Who the heck is that?

NEVER EVER let anyone (who's not a photographer ) take your pics besides yourself. And even then review and redo. In selfies I look like the talented smoldering eyed ingenue, Other peopl

Mom's family -- tons of us have it! I'm sorry to read about your neuropathy, too -- cancer is such a b***h. I'm sure we'll both be better off with less weight to bear on our suffering feet. :P Soon..... right?

From your lips to God's ears sweetie! And I don't have the suckage lottery with the BC. LOL. Sounds like your's sucks wind too. ((hugs)) Sad to hear how so many on your mom's side have it. :57_cry: Here's to being able to go out for a run, or at least a slow jog one day, right? (Hey, it's our party, we can dream. Right?)

Oh wow! Saying prayers for you tomorrow that the HR woman gets your perfect piccy on the first take!!! I get it. I think I've never been photogenic, except when I was super little. But have never been able to smile naturally.

Well, we took a couple pics for the new work badge, and I didn't like them. Big surprise! But it was in the afternoon, after sitting in my dry office all day I looked like the crypt keeper, and one of my eyebrows was half rubbed off. I have a few days off now between jobs, and she said I can come back Monday morning when I'm fresh and ready to take a good picture, lol.

BTW, hope you are doing well on your liquid diet fluffy!

Wow! I totally get it! So. Many. Creases and crepe. ((hugs)) I don't know which is worse, half an eyebrow or to have all you mascara fall off your lashes and pool under your eyes like a goth. LOL. Glad she's gonna let you have a do-over! I don't guess you can take a pic and she could upload it huh?

Liquid is going ok. Tonight was fairly tough-ish. I couldn't even make Mr. F.'s grilled chickie boobs. I was too hungry. I woulda caved. So I made him eat leftover potroast from the freezer with broccoli and butter and avo+tomato. Quick, ready in 5 minutes. Done! :) Thanks for being so supportive! MUAH!

@FluffyChix Thank you! And I'm confident that your pain will reduce as well. Heck, I'll pray that your pain diminishes all together! Now, that's a trade off....weight loss=LESS to NO PAIN!!!

I wish I could just bring in a picture of my choosing, but they have a "special system". Why do pictures have to be so hard!

I remember doing my liquid diet, it was hard smelling food, and seeing people eat it. It gets a little better after the first few days in terms of hunger but the cravings for chewing something were a struggle. Find something to help keep your hands and mind busy, it helps.

Ugh on the photo thing. I have absolutely no understanding how to take a good one. The minute the camera comes out some weird spaz thing starts happening with my face. My ENTIRE face! You know? (But for the record, your avatar is darling and you look cutie patootey.) So maybe you just have no idea that you're secretly photogenic?

The cooking part has some amount of challenge to it. I mostly occupy myself cleaning the kitchen while Mr. F's been eating. So it hasn't been a real issue. I'm playing about a crap-ton of hearts and solitaire and the dice game I can't remember the name of on my iphone. And today is actually better. I still haven't eaten my first meal yet cuz I'm not hungry. I figure I'll wait until I feel the urge. :D

Uhg .. I dont think,I have ever taken a good picture. Even if I feel really good, I look in the mirror, or someone, usually my mom who is always taking pictures takes one of me and I'm brought back to reality...

I know the feeling, there were a lot of times that I exerted too much effort just to look good in pics (with makeup and all); but then I still look like pfft. LOL

  • 2 months later...

I would just be happy to see a pic of myself with both eyes open ?

Omg...i didnt see how old this was???

That's okay Funky Monkey, I contributed then and I'm back again. I wish my Bariatric Program has taken a picture,of me for reference in the Baiatric Clinic Waiting Room as I had my last Pre-Surgery consult next to the Signboard they have. Got Tomkitten (my son) to take some at home and I want one of me in my surgical patient gown and cap, just before I get wheeled away to the OR. With a blue surgical shower-type cap it won't matter that my hair is light ginger red aka Strawberry Blonde and The gown will be OSU scarlet and gray. And my REBIRTHDAY will be starting and I will never be the same! This is GOOD for the way I am now is not worth writing home about! 9-05-2018 and everthing will be made new! AND I CAN HARDLY WAIT!
