i’m super irritated with my surgeon’s office. My surgery was scheduled for 3/12. They suddenly realized my secondary Ins BCbSIL requires my surgery to be at a “blue star” hospital. Sooooo my new date is 3/16. I realize it’s just a few days but I really do not want to have surgery at this hospital. My husband was treated there in the ER and they completely missed his gall stones. Sent us off and went on vacation to Napa and he ended up right back in the hospital vomiting and in severe pain and the doctor there said well I can see your gall stones on the ultrasound results. Didn’t they tell you that you have gall stones? Nope hey didn’t. So now I’m irritated my doctor office suddenly realized this requirement, I have to go to a hospital I don’t want to use, and I have to rearrange my time off at work. I’m sorry to vent but I know this is a safe place. Don’t you think the doctor office should have checked with my secondary Ins before today? What if there were more requirements?

First off, I am sorry that this happened -- how irritating! But you were fortunate to get a date at the blue start hospital so quickly -- and before you started your pre-op diet. Here's hoping nothing else pops up....

Hi All! This is my first time posting. I am scheduled form March 28th. My BMI is only 38 and I have mild sleep apnea. I am so afraid I will be denied. I have Aeta. Does any one have an experience with this? Good luck to all of you!

I had a BMI of 38 with a diagnosis of high blood pressure and was initially denied because my blood pressure was controlled(with bp meds) and my bmi was only 38..but I then went for a sleep study and was diagnosed with moderate obstructive sleep apnea.I was approved within a couple of days.I have UHC Community Plan.Best wishes and stay hopeful!!

Like @deirdreyr4, my BMI is 37 and sleep apnea turned out to be my co-morbidity. Insurance approved first try. Hope it works out for you!

Oh wow, insurance companies can be such a pain sometimes. I also have a “low BMI” 38 when I started the process. With high blood pressure controlled with medication. I have Cigna OAP. While going through all the test found out I also have mild sleep apnea. Luckily, I was approved with no problems got the good news just 5 days after office submitted.

I just had my last crab cake for a while. It was delicious!! Its 79 degrees today, and I met my husband at a local waterfront restaurant for lunch. I know its not forever, but I was a little sad to think that I probably won't be back there until this fall at the earliest. They do make the most stupendous gazpacho with lump crab in the summer, though. Hmmm....

Is anyone else having "last meals" before the 2-week pre-op starts?

Hubby and I went to Boston Lobster Feast the weekend before we started as our last mean and what a disappointment. Wish we had gone to Texas de Brazil instead. I feel cheated!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
