Scared of Gaining Weight

Recommended Posts

Its been a hard journey, and after losing weight, I'm scared of gaining it back. I see so many stories of people who have had the same surgery (sleeve) and gained back all the weight. Everyone keeps telling me that I've lost too much. I'm down to 102 lbs. I don't know how to find the right balance. Is this normal? I'm a little over 1 year out from surgery. I'm 5"2', 30yrs old.

You'll notice that the trend for those posts are:

I don't eat properly anymore

I don't seperate eating and drinking

I snack or graze all the time

I drink too much alcohol

I don't exercise

I got stressed and gave up

I don't go to support groups

I don't see my surgeon or NUT anymore

Let their mistakes teach you ...

So Heres my story...

I had wls in Oct of 2013....My suregon was very upfront about what was suppose to happened. He told me very bluntly that the reson for setting a goal weighy was where i needed to be to be healthy.....he also explaind to me that the body would stop its weight loss naturally and the even a few pounds gained back once i hit the bottom would be ok. So here is what we set....

SURGERY DATE WEIGHT 343

GOAL WEIGHT 205-215

Heres what happened

SURGERY DATE WEIGHT 343

GOAL WEIGHT 205-215

LOWEST EVER WEIGHT 169

CURRENT WEIGHT 195 been here for (about a year and 1/2 now)

I think what im trying to say is as long as you get where you want to be weight wise and continue your grind to stay their you will be fine... There are tons of people who fail with our surgery but that is because there mind wasnt right or they allowed them selves to lose focus on the goal once they hit it......its not just about hitting it its about keeping it there and the fact that your here asking shows your mind is still in it....... keep grinding.....you got this!

The fear of weight gain can help keep you at a healty weight. Recognize if the fear gets to the point you obsess over your weight.

Coments "you lost too much weight" can also make you question if you are too thin. If you are a healthy bmi ..ignore the comments.

You are right. It's finding a balance. Recognize you are at a healthy weight.

This is what maintaining looks like for me. I have a ten pound bounce range. If I gain weight. I work to bring it back in range.

Dont let the regain posts freak you out. We all have our struggles with WLS.
I am compassionate with anyone who has had regain.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
