Late December Sleevers?

Recommended Posts

I have about a 3 to 4 for pain. My incisions look good. I am doing ok for hydration but getting the Protein in is still a work in progress. Thanks for the reminder of the Miso Soup I love that & will grab some soon. Now for confession time...I had a frozen wonton bowl last night and every intemotion of just having the broth but the wontons we boiled down so soft that they fell apart. So I figured what would be the harm really. Well when I tell you the few slivers of it i had came back with a vengeance! People I now know that Dumping syndrome is real and better you not do it to yourself. A hard head makes a soft behind as my Gram used to say so going forward I will be listening loud and clear. :-)

Im on day 7, too, and I’ve definitely felt hungry and had my stomach growling. I started puréed food today. It’s not going down well - feels like a punch in the stomach! 😕

Girl, you're lucky! I only get to start full liquids for the next 2 weeks, then 2 weeks of pureed, then regular :(

I am still doing liquids too until the 22nd then my plan says I can move to soft if released by the surgeon. I was just trying to beat the system but all I did was beat myself into that horrible side effect. That was a valuable lesson I didn't need to learn since they already told me ahead of time. :-( just disobedient. All that glitters isn't gold.

Can’t wait til purée!

It’s not all it’s cracked up to be! Lol! I looked forward to that scrambled egg SO much! It was disappointing. I puked up a string cheese yesterday. Idk if I didn’t chew it enough, or what. They have been going down alright. I’m sticking the super puréed food today. I had a Protein Shake for Breakfast and soupy mashed potatoes for lunch. I’m making it - slowly, though!

Me too! Can’t wait to see everybody’s! I feel a little guilty taking off extra for work, but I figure it can’t hurt! I’m easing back into it!

I’ll be two weeks Tuesday and my nutritionist says I can start purée then. I’m, so tired of not real food, I find myself not eating at all, instead of the yogurt or shake. Also I’ve been drinking this Protein Water and I think it gives me gas. Anybody else?

Good for you don't feel guilty. If you can do it. That would certainly be my advice for anyone in our situation. I am going to start resistance training next week. Nothing major just with the bands for legs and arms. I am walking every day 15 to 30 minutes and thats not a lot but it's a start. More time is good to get to know yourself good luck with the time off.

When should I expect to start seeing some real weight loss? I'm down 15 lbs. total, but that's including what I lost before surgery on liquid diet. I KNOW I'm not supposed to weigh until 2 weeks out, and I'm 8 days, but I couldn't help myself. The scale is staring at me every time I go into the bathroom! Hahah!

Protien Water makes me burp a lot! And I'm getting sick of the tropical punch flavor. Gag! I do good wanting a shake for breakfast. It goes down pretty well. It's the rest of the day that is full of suprises!

I've done the same thing, i'm 8 days out and have lost 12 lbs since surgery. And 22lbs since the pre-op diet. I think it's because of my surgeons rules though...literally the first week I was only allowed Water, Gatorade/Powerade, Jello and had to have one Protein Shake a day, that was it. I think thats why I lost so much the first week. I had my 1 week post op appointment today and she did say I was on the higher end of patients first week loss, she said its normal to be at about 6 - 8 lbs lost the first week.

I've been weighing myself daily since I got home from the hospital (12/21) and I'm down almost 25 lbs so far.

edit: My weight loss sped up once I started the full liquid diet, but now it's slowed to about half a pound a day.

String cheese isn't on my list of pureed foods, but cream cheese is. Have you tried that?

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
