This is a hard one, but it depends on your preferences. I am a huge Apple nerd so I got the Apple Watch the year it came out. Before that, I had Fitbits for years and loved them.

I ultimately ended up sticking with the Apple Watch (after a time of wearing both) because it can do infinitely more than a Fitbit. I love having a tiny computer on my wrist and the new Series 3 with cell service allows me to leave my phone at home on walks, etc. I can listen to music on it, take calls, text, directions, etc. Basically most things a phone does.

The Fitbit (even the nicest ones) can't do all that. They can show you texts and that someone is calling, but you need the phone nearby. The screens aren't as nice, but they are cheaper to buy and have longer living batteries. They are more durable in my experience, though I've heard the higher end new ones aren't as much so.

For fitness...well...Apple Watch as come a really long way. But Fitbit is probably still better at this aspect. They have the social infrastructure that some people need/want and that is a big draw. Apple is trying to add this social feature but it's just not there yet. I have found that both of them read about the same as far as steps and calories, but no wrist device is extremely accurate (especially if you do non-walking/running activities). But you get a good idea. I don't know if Fitbit can do this, but the Apple Watch can pair with a chest strap heart rate monitor and the new Series 3 is basically waterproof (you can swim with it).

So...I LOVE my Apple Watch, but if you don't care about all the other tech features and want just fitness tracking, you might want to go with Fitbit. I had the Fitbit HR 2 (heart rate is key for me) and liked it.

Let us know what you end up getting!

My husband and I both went from fitbit to the Apple watch. I had a Charge HR, my husband had the Blaze. Totally agree with @fruitandveggies review of both fitbit and Apple. I did enjoy the challenges that you could do with friends on the fitbit and miss the social aspect of using it, but I love my watch for all of the other things I can use it for. One of my favorite things is that I can leave my phone in the car or gym locker and use wireless headphones to play my workout music from my watch. No more having to try to find a place for my phone while working out. I also like that my watch reminds me to get up and move hourly throughout the day - it helps me since I'm currently at a desk job.

I'm so in love with my apple watch. It does everything, my scale is synced to it, all of my various workout apps, are too. I can get all my calendar notifications, texts and calls through it, i'm obsessed.

Plus i told myself if im going to spend the money im not going to half ass it. Until recently the fitbit couldnt do everything the apple watch can. So i wasn't going to skimp on features especially when i would have buyers remorse later.

If you don't own an I-Phone/other Apple products (i.e. I have a Droid for a cell phone), what additional features, if any, would I be able to get from an Apple watch? In other words, is some of the functionality like getting calls/texts/music driven by having an Apple cell phone or will it work with ANY cell phone?

Thanks!

You have to have an iPhone to use the Apple Watch

I use the fitbit charge2. I love it. I like the challenges and it syncs with my galaxy phone. Plus it just isn't as bulky. Oh and I can get millions of different straps for it.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
