Looking for a band buddy, UK or any

Recommended Posts

Hi I just had a band fitted, I’m in the East of England area but would like to share with anyone

I guess I'm looking for a buddy too. I'm in the US, but it really doesn't matter, does it? I was just kind of looking around, and saw your post. Your post felt a little like I feel right now...maybe a little alone and unsure of myself. I had my band surgery on November 2, 2017, so I'm just about 9 or 10 days post-op. I haven't had a fill (adjustment?) in it yet. Sometimes I feel like I could eat everything in sight and it wouldn't bother me. At other times, well...I just ate 1 oz. of soft cheese and I'm full. How are you doing? Your surgery is recent, isn't it?

Hi! Absolutely does not matter where you are, I am happy to be buddies. How did your surgery go, did it take you long to recover?

I'm 6 days post op now and feeling a lot less tender. I had a low day yesterday of feeling I was doing the post op diet all wrong, I was hungry and everything I had was all artificial tasting. Today has been better :P not as hungry. I've got my first post op check with the surgeon at the end of the month, when do you go?

You know, it really wasn't that bad. My belly is bruised pretty badly. Good thing I'm not wearing a bikini lol! My appointment is at the end of this month too. I've had a couple of tough days, too. Yesterday was really the first day I felt hungry a lot. I think it's more about eating 4-6 ounces, and then waiting awhile, and eating a small amount again. I think the hunger will get better after we have our first appointment. Now that I'm on soft foods, it's nice to be able to eat with my family again. I made chili Soup today, and we're all having that. I didn't like it when I couldn't eat with them.

I'm also feeling a lot better since I've been able to go outside and walk. I was too sore for the first week, but now that I'm going back out and walking it makes me feel more productive. It's really cold here right now, so it kind of sucks to walk outside, but it's pretty far outside my comfort zone to be walking out in the cold like that. So...I don't know, it feels like I'm doing something a little luxurious to be taking care of myself, and taking that time out for just me.

Yes have to say I’m looking forward to having something other than Soup but I’m also really grateful to have had this chance to sort myself out.

I’ve been experimenting with lots of different smoothies to get some variety as well as Vitamins, I had banana, strawberry and melon all blended with lots of milk, was pretty good and no nasty aftertaste

Have you a large family?

I have a 15-year old daughter, and a 13-year old son. I'm 53 (yes, I was really old when I had them! haha). So no, it's just my husband and I and the 2 kids. But somehow eating differently than them made me feel...left out and pitiful. My husband is trying to help me. He's lost 30 pounds just cutting back and not keeping sweets in the house (a*****e!). I am a Middle School History teacher. How about yourself?

BTW...what time is it in the UK? I'm so old I'm immediately thinking bedtimes.

It’s just gone half ten here, most definitely bedtime for me! My kids are still little and like to wake early, they’re 8 and 9. I do find it hard preparing meals for them and my husband, the smells drive me crazy, hopefully when I can start eating small amounts of mushy food this won’t be so bad.

I’m a nurse and I’m 38, what ages does middle school cover?

30lbs?! Wow!

My students are 13 & 14. It's a tough age. I'd rather be with older students, but long story. Have a great day tomorrow!

So tomorrow (after you've slept, worked, cooked, cleaned, etc.:D) you can tell me how many kids you have and what kind of nursing you do. How's that?

Hello, I hope you are still active on the forum. I had to take a break after a tough month but am back now!

How are things with you? I have two kids who are 9 and 10 and I’m a children’s nurse, all my experience is with premature babies [emoji846]

Hi there, am in Ireland. Had my band surgery on 25th Nov and am having my 1st adjustment on 10thJan. Its gone ok so far not too many issues, had been sick a few times due to eating too quickly or too big a bite but am sure this is all part of the learning curve. Hows it been for you?

Hi! I'm doing ok, like you I sometimes forget to take smaller bites which is painful! I had my first fill just before Christmas, I put a little bit of weight on over Christmas due to eating lots of chocolate and not a lot else but hopefully now will start to see a difference

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
