Did you take a "Before" photo?

Recommended Posts

I have had a couple of people tell me I should take a 'before' photo to document the beginning of this journey. I can understand why some people would want that, and to each his own. But truthfully, every photo of me over the last 30 years has been a 'before' photo. Do I really need to take an underwear shot to remember what I look like? For those of you who are further along, did you need that photo to compare with your current appearance to know you are progressing? Will I regret it if I don't take one? (I guess the thought of a 'bikini pic' right now terrifies me....)

I would recommend a good before photograph so that you have something to compare it with after surgery. I would not recommend an underwear photo because you may be tempted to share it with someone. I would recommend a bathing suit photo. Many times we are blind to our obesity. We do not see ourselves. Therefore when the weight begins to drop off rather dramatically, we question if this is really happening. Photographs are a good visualization of our success. Many people carry a before and after photo with them, just to remind themselves of their success. In my case I was the photographer in the family and as a result I rarely appeared in photographs. Also when I looked in the mirror, all I could see is a front shot, so I didn't really see the extent of my obesity.

When I took my before photo, I used the time release function on the camera and took poses in several positions (front, back, right side, left side). This allowed me to recreate the same exact pose 6 months after surgery. This is the result.

I agree that photos are important to document your journey. We may not feel like we’re making much progress but then when we look back and compare it we can see a big difference in how our bodies are changing even if the scale isn’t moving. I have three outfits that I’m going to document my journey so that I can have them to look back on. Thanks for sharing!

I did black bike shorts and a tank top and I'm glad I did! I took the same shot about once a month and then professionally when I got to goal. Here are just a few

I regret not taking any photos before my surgery. I did not have any full body pictures of myself because I hated taking pictures when I was over weight, now trying to find a picture to compare show the difference is like finding a needle in a haystack.

THIS! I didn't take one and regret it. I spent many years trying to avoid the camera and the pictures of myself I do have are mostly me trying to hide behind other people or things. And I don't think there are any at all of me at my highest weight.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
